Search Results: taking a break in a relationship boyfriend

I'm so confused...I've told my boyfriend that I wanted to take a break from our relationship, but I'm not sure for how long even.

I'm afraid of him getting too close and me hurting him. I have depression issues, and sometimes he doesn't know how to handle it, and I don't want him to become depressed because of me.

My boyfriend is 19, is not in school, does not have a car or license, and does not have a job. He used to, but he lost his job in order to visit me (we are long distance). I feel as though our relationship costed him his job. The distance is also really hard for me to cope with.

I want to study abroad, but I feel if I am in a long distance relationship when I go abroad, I will be at home skyping all day, instead of exploring new cultures and exploring new places.

I feel like this is the right guy, but the wrong time. At this point, I feel that our relationship isn't working towards anything, so I get depressed, and it's just a neverending cycle. Which is why I told him that we would take a break. But will taking a break solve this? And how long is a break supposed to be? What am I supposed to do in a situation like this? Break-up, take a break, or work things out? How am I supposed to know what to do?
