This is way too long of a story to tell (last 3 paragraphs say the most), but basically, my best guy friend liked me in high school. We dated a bit and then agreed we should be friends. It really seemed mutual. We remained close friends, I dated other people. He was always there. After I broke up with that guy my friend Alston started acting different around me... like hitting on me. I picked up on it, but knowing his track record with girls I figured he was just flirting to flirt. He kind of flirts with anyone... and he's sort of known to be a bit of a player... but never has had a gf?

Anywho, he tried to kiss me and do some other things and I'm not that kind of girl so I said no because we weren't even dating... and I was never sure if he just wanted to get some action or if he really liked me. It was never clear!

Eventually we sort of got together... stayed up all night talking, cuddling, didn't kiss though... held hands... acted like boyfriend/girlfriend minus the making out... I went back to school and it was really evident that I liked him. He ignored me.

I finally confronted him one day and he said it was all revenge for not liking him in high school and that he was just using me. That we were close in high school but weren't close anymore. Where did everything suddenly change? It was very sudden. He said he was going through a bad time and used me to bring himself up. Those are all words from him, written, on paper.

I was heartbroken. I lost my best friend and had no idea.

I told him we couldn't be friends... I mean, how could we? he used me etc etc. He begged and begged, sent me love songs (?) and then later on said those were songs that he figured made me think of him (?)

We stopped talking for several months, but then I realized I was probably hurting him more by NOT talking to him at all.

We've been "trying" at friendship since then.

When we are together, he's very cold, doesn't have much of a sense of humor and VERY judgmental about my life and what I am doing. He ALWAYS asks about guys... and then gets annoyed.

Last time we hung out he asked me all about the boys in my life. I had just been dumped and I was sad. He was trying to be nice... and then he said, "you're just fixated on relationships because you have nothing better to do." What an awful thing to say... especially when he prodded me for answers when I didn't want to tell him. Then he showed me pictures of girls he wants to hook up with. I told him there was a guy in college that I am still close with and he and I had talked about marriage. My friend Alston just completely flipped out! He said there was no way I could know already.

Anyways, I talked to my friends about it and they all said he sounds jealous. I had no idea what to think. I just thought he was being rude the whole time. He kept ASKING about the guys in my life and then had to shut all of them down. AND he showed me pictures of girls? So weird!

What do you guys think?

Should I go out on a limb with my feelings and trust him?

Backstory: I got divorced after a year of “working” on my marriage while my husband continued to have affairs. It’s been 3 years of me barely dating and mostly having fwb.

I met a guy that asked me to be his girlfriend after we’d been dating for a month. I didn’t hesitate to say yes because I haven’t felt this way about a guy since my husband. He has said he hasn’t had a girlfriend in 5 years and only been sort of dating but mostly fwb.

Since we’ve become official I’ve become insecure. We live an hour apart and he doesn’t really like to talk on the phone or text. We’ve only talked on the phone 3 times. I’ve said that I need at least one text a day, just so that I know he’s thinking about me. He doesn’t have a problem with that.

I think we had our first fight this last weekend? We had plans Saturday to watch football at his house while I did homework. That day he asked if we could go to his friends house instead. I told him to go alone because I don’t want to keep him away from his friends, but I really needed to do homework and didn’t want to be rude to his friends. I went to his house later that night after the game. He immediately sat me on the couch and wanted to talk. I figured this was the break up talk and he thought I came over to his house to break up with him? Needless to say it was awkward but no screaming or yelling. The next day we had GREAT day together.

I’m worried I fell for some guys line about not having a girlfriend making me feel special. I’m worried because he doesn’t like to communicate but we only see each other once a week. I’m worried because neither one of us do relationships and maybe this really isn’t anything special to him.

Should I stop questioning everything and trust him even though I could have my heart broken again?
