There's this guy (Joe) that i have been in the same class since 4th grade and i am incredibly in love with him. Joe is for me the perfect guy. He has had two shallow girlfriends and he once comforted me in 5th grade.

Joe and I have basically the same taste in sports (besides that our teams are rivals) and humour. He understands my jokes and vice versed. I am so confused right now as whether he feels the same as I do for him.

Joe and I always talk about our team rivalry and tease each other in a fun way that we both understand.
He knowingly makes jokes so that I would laugh.
He always smiles when he looks at me and I sort of do the same.
He talks to me randomly about weird stuff, sometimes when other people don't understand I say in a joke "if only it were you and me joe" he then responds "if only"

Now during geometry in Friday he did all of that so I decided to test him. Since he's the class clown he said out of the blue something that only I thought was funny and agreed with so I laughed and then he smiled-laughed. Our teacher accidentally mixed our names and I pointed that out by saying Joe and laughing at the same time. Guess what he did? Smiled!

It confuses me big time and makes me sad at the same time!
I don't know it he feels the same and I'm afraid to ask because what if he doesn't feel the same? How will I cope getting turned down by the person I have been in love with for five years?

I have a plan on how I am going to confess my love.
When we graduate the ninth grade next year our group will go abroad to at least another European country, I thought of confessing to him there so that it won't be as embarrassing.
If that doesn't happen, I will tell him on our graduation so that if he denies me I can start a new life in a new school.

To add to all he is very fit and attractive whilst I need to work out in order to get my asthma straight. Maybe I should ask he to help me work out?

What do you guys and girls think about this?

I've known this guy since I was 8 (he was 9) through a similar interest in the same sport (we both raced in BMX). We were best little friends and the only time we ever saw each other was the days when we were racing on the track. As it stereotypically does, we slowly grew closer till we fancied each other at about 13 years old. We never ended up dating. Both of us thought it was stupid at the time and flirted shamelessly. Fast forward to the future he's 20 now and I'm 19 and I don't know what we're doing... still being friends and all I mean. We've been on and off friends about 3 times and every time we forget about each other until one of us gets the other one back. If we hang out he treats it like a date. Is a complete gentleman, won't let me drive or pay for anything; and it's really sweet. But when we text he's just like one of my mates. & has even stated he 'can't be what I want or need' in one of our arguments (unsure of what that means but assuming he's saying he doesn't fancy me).

I may be misinterpreting things because of the crazy past we have but after every fight when he or I sets our pride aside and gets the other back we fall exactly back into our 'place' as if nothing has happened within minutes of awkward 'what do we do now'?

Do you think this relationship is even worth pursuing if we both are this disfunctional?

I should note I'm in a place when I don't know if I still love him or if I just enjoy his company as it's a sort of safe feeling having him around.
