In February I applied to a GSOC position. After interviewing with the team, they were all impressed with my skill-set and felt that I would make an excellent Intelligence Analyst. Thus, four weeks ago, I reached out to a contact from there. She directed me to Person A, who thanked me for reaching out and told me that they had a new analyst opportunity available in the Bay area. He asked me if I would be interested in that position? I said, yes and we chatted about it the following week. He gave me the salary range and talked about what the position would detail. He told me flat out again, that he saw me as an analyst, as "potential outways experience"

Three weeks ago, I had a one-hour online video interview with Person A and Person B (from HR). The interview went great and Person A asked again my salary requirements and how soon I could move out to the Bay area. Everyone seemed really excited and the interview moved at a great pace. He told me he didn't know if the tech company would require a writing sample, but he would get back at the end of the week.

Long story short, I emailed both Person A and Person B at the end of two weeks for a status update. Person B replied that she was sorry, as it was a tough decision but, they went with other candidates that were more highly skilled to what the client wanted. I never heard back from Person A. I sent a follow-up email to Person A thanking him for connecting me to the interview and inquiring on the potential 2-3 contracts he mentioned during our first chat. As of now, I haven't heard back from him and it's been 1/5 days.

Why the radio silence from Person A after basically selling me the job? How would you interpret this?
