I believe that is what he wants as he doesn't really cook ethnic. He has made me meals, Anglo.
I really enjoy cooking for people especially partners or potential partners, I have a wide range of different cuisines that I cook, I rarely cook English food for others but I'm English.
So how's that apply to what I said.

Yes, some people are just more comfortable making certain types of food because they know they are good at those dishes and they know the other person will enjoy it because it's good. If you're not skilled at a particular dish it might not turn out too well.
One of the reasons I don't cook English food is because other cuisines are fat more exciting and I know I can do a better job of it
So in that regard getting his mother to cook something he's not good at indicates he cares I get a proper version... He mentioned once making a sandwich for me & he's done pasta (full lunch actually) he brought in for me.
