Why is liking anime seen as a childish thing? Why do the people who oppose it judge us who like it but watch shows like Family Guy?

Please, tell me what could possibly be seen as childish about anime? The same people who say this bs are fans of Family Guy, Robot Chicken, The Cleveland Show, King of the Hill, and many other animated, and, arguably, far more childish programming than much of the anime we fans watch and enjoy.

Tell me how anime like Bleach, Clannad, Gantz, Blood+, Vampire Knight, Oreimo, Naruto, Mobile Suit Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Devil May Cry, Fist of the North Star, etc are childish.

How can you who oppose anime possibly judge us who like it when you are the same people who watch Family Guy and laugh jokes about farts and sex? Explain yourselves.

It's infuriating how big the double standard is towards us. We are seen as weird, creepy, childish, unproductive. we are judged by our fandom rather than our personality. Why does what we choose to watch have to matter? What makes us different from the people who watch American television?
