Why do MD's insist on being called doctor while PhD's don't?

Anonymous
I hate that shit. PhD's put in just as much work. Residents get paid what a PhD is paid fresh out of school.

When i meet a doctor and their email address included dr or md I know we aren't going to be friends. In my experience the best doctors aren't hung up on this stuff because they became a doctor because they wanted to do the work not have the salary or prestige.

I had an older surgeon at a wedding get mad because I called him sir. Apparently in his eyes doctor trumps sir and I was disrespecting.

Imagine the president insisting you not call him sir because Mr. President trumps sir.

This is why people don't like doctors.
