Prostitution, to allow it or not to allow it?

Personally, I DO NOT want this to be allowed. I think prostitution is wrong all over, dangerous, nasty, etc. I think that this is a great way to spread disease. A rebuttal to my claims would be that legalizing it would take a hit on the black market and that if it were legalized then the women/men could be given weekly tests and protection in order to stay. And it would help the economy with the income. What do you think?

  • Legalise and regulate it. As long as the girls/guys are protected from exploitation, there is nothing wrong with providing a service for money.

  • Don't legalize it because it makes human trafficking a whole lot easier and there will be more victims and harder to catch predators.

  • I'm all for escort services and whatnot. A licensed building where women have a background check, and men pay to have sex with them or whatever it is they want. A professional business where it can't just be anyone that walks in or works there.

Prostitution on the street should remain illegal.

  • It should absolutely be legalized.

It's not about whether you think it's icky or nasty; it's about telling a person what they can't do with their body. When police and government try to do that, people will do what they want anyways, but now they aren't being protected by the law and regulated by the government.

And that just makes no sense.

Legalizing prostitution, taxing it heavily, and imposing a bunch of regulations about weekly testing and safe working conditions; it'd be a revolutionary health benefit for our society.

  • Yes, but it would have to be regulated to protect both participants. It think all prostitution should happen in licensed and regulated brothels. All prostitutes should be regularly checked and all customers should be checked and condoms should be used. This would pretty much protect both parties.

The problem is prostitution happens whether it's legal or not and the ONLY way to protect people involved is doing it legally with appropriate regulation.

  • its legal in Germany. However it is heavily regulated so if you happen to catch an std you are not doing it legally. They are only allowed in special houses for them. Std checks are regular.

  • There are plenty of things out there that I do not personally partake in but I still support other people’s rights to do. I don’t get drunk, I don’t smoke, I don’t have sex with dudes… honestly I think they are pretty gross too. Doesn’t mean I don’t think other people should all have to stop doing it because of what I think. Legalizing and regulating prostitution could give much safer lives to a lot of people. Hooker gets raped or beaten up by someone, she can’t call the cops because she will be arrested for being a victim. Legalizing it will help cut down on human trafficking, help reduce violent crimes against prostitutes, and help reduce sexually transmitted diseases as working girls, or guys, would be required to get periodic tests and treatment.

  • Yes, this should be regulated by laws, protections should be obligatory, prostitutes should be declared by their employer, anything like normal employees. I'm sorry for the girls that have no choice and that must do this, so to make it easier for them, we should at least settle those rules. Many men would feel sexually unsatisfied if she weren't doing this job

  • I think it should be legalized. That way it can be regulated and safer for all parties involved. But, also I'm a believer that if it doesn't hurt the people involved, there shouldn't be a law against it.

  • I would legalize it despite the fact that I think it's disgusting and non respectful work.

I would enforce a policy of "Register yourself by this time or else". To which the majority of prostitutes would hopefully register and then they'd be able to work but have to pay a higher income tax and take regular tests for STDs and Drug tests.

  • i think its nasty but, i think if you legalize it if will recude the number of people place into the sex trade.

if if you do things it will also reduce sex worker abuse, and pimps abuse.
make them get checked by a doctor once a monthmdormSTD to keep there prostatude permit, and also have a consouler talk to them a bit to see if they are abused.

  • If someone wants to be a prostitute today, there's not much stopping them. If it was legal, at least they could get proper care.

Plus, what two consensual adults do in their sex lives is none of my business

And I think it's not really healthy!

  • As much as it is ethically wrong. Legalized prostitutes will have to pay taxes as well us follow medical stipulation in order to be in that field. Let's be honest, if it is allowed or not, there will be prostitutes regardless

  • Whether you allow it or not.. It would go long way for years.. I would say.. Legalising it will yield better results.. I have read in so many articles that illegal prostitution hurting woman nastily.. There's no medical checkups periodically... Also there will be an identity for the woman if it is Legalised.. it is favourable to prostitute's.. I think society doesn't accept it...

  • It’s legal in australia, it isn’t a big deal.

Prostitutes would typically not be very risky. They their clients would get themselves tested regularly as part of running their business. If there’s a prostitute that’s going to spread disease it’s the illegal ones.

So while I think it’s fine being legal, I personally have no interest in their services and fine it a massive turnoff. I want nothing to do with it.

I have a friend that goes regularly. I think it’s women taking advantage of lonely men. The women seem to enjoy themselves too much and the men are there because of a sense of desperation for female affection. That to me makes it gross. If that’s how they want to spend their money then I guess it’s not my place to stop them. But I don’t think it needs to be illegal, it’s just ultra gross to me on a personal level.

  • legalise it. I don't see anything morally wrong with it. It keeps sex workers safer and contributes the economy. You're also much more likely to get an STD from a random person off tinder than a prostitute or other sex worker.
