A lot of people want it abolished because it destroys the popular vote. They argue that it takes away the people's right to vote for their president fairly because the Electoral college is based on state electoral votes, not the actual votes of the people. Therefore, it's seen more as a game of scoring enough points. This means that, even if the majority votes for one party, the other may still win.
Supporters say that it's good because it levels the playing field for smaller states who otherwise may not have a large say in who the president is.
My personal experience is that liberals don't like the electoral college, but conservatives value it a lot. However, that's just MY experience. I don't know if anyone has heard any different.
