Regardless of what law makers do to minimum wages, retailers are going to continue to operate under the model of 30% of gross sales being allocated towards labor costs. So if you raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 you’re going to have to spend $2.06 for every $1 you use to spend to keep the same work force employed. That’s a fuck ton of inflation… Thus dropping the average American household’s spending power to what is now $28,659 which is just above current poverty levels of $24,600. Basically raising the minimum wage wipes out the middle class and makes the average household poor through rapid inflation. This obviously will stifle spending even for college educated people, which will lead to a recession and job losses. There’s a bunch of dominoes that fall after that but you get the point. It’s a bad move.
