I mean slavery did not affect one black person's life who is alive today if anything they have it easier than we do. Affirmative action has been stealing jobs from white people for years.
I agree to that too
I do, I don't know about them
Don’t call someone racist but insist on keeping a racist policy
Tell me more about why you think affirmative action is racist
Of course it is. It’s exclusively for minorities which means non whites. It’s also discrimination
It was implemented to combat the discrimination faced by minorities though.
It is picking someone for something because they are black or female, or Hispanic. Doesn't matter whether they are qualified or not.
Tough. Those days are long over. It ended when a two term black president was elected. Get rid of it or stfu
@Poormanscomedian No. It means picking qualified minorities over qualified white people. Not picking people who are unqualified.
No it means picking based on color not qualifications. It’s picking based on quota. I’ve been a victim of it
There is a baseline of qualification that the minority applicant has to meet. They may bypass a white applicant who is better qualified, but they won't hire someone who is unqualified.
Didn’t answer my question. It is clearly racist and discriminatory so why keep it yet point fingers at someone else?
Because they would say affirmative action is a less harmful, more socially acceptable form of discrimination. You may disagree with that, but its not necessarily a hypocritical position.
It’s either right or wrong. Don’t you dare call someone racist yet defend affirmative action
Like I said, they believe discrimination against whites (particularly white males) isn't as harmful as discrimination against other groups. A principled advocate of affirmative action would probably say that while its not ideal, it is the least harmful way to correct a greater evil.
Idgaf what they think. Their thinking is fucked up. You want equality? Really? Then get rid of affirmative action
They what would you do about the original problem of discrimination against minorities?
It doesn’t exist anymore. What more do you want?
How do you know? If you think they are only getting hired now due to quotas doesn't that support the contention that there is still discrimination?
Nope. They’re getting hired because they have to by law. My point is. We elected a black president twice. There isn’t discrimination anymore. Get rid of affirmative action
So, using your logic, because we haven't elected a female president should women still be given preferential hiring through affirmative action?
Nope. There shouldn’t be AA at all. It’s racist and discriminatory and you liberals claim you hate those things. So this is how it’s going to be. You either want equality or you don’t. If you really want equality like you claim then get rid of AA otherwise at least be honest enough and have enough balls to say you don’t want equality and you want policies in place that tilt things in your favor and also admit you’re racist and support discrimination. Ok? Agree to that? No? Then stfu
Yet the only thing you cite as proof that discrimination no longer exists is that we elected a black male president. We still haven't elected a female president, so how can you prove it no longer exists for women or other races?
Admit you support racism and discrimination
I don't know if I support Affirmative Action in 2019. But you haven't been able to cite any evidence whatsoever that discrimination no longer exists against women and minorities aside from "muh black president". So you're not really making an effective case against people who do support it.
I don’t support it because it is racist and discriminatory. Idgaf it’s intentions
Well then I suggest you come up with a better way to combat discrimination against women and minorities. Or at least provide a more convincing argument that it doesn't exist.
I don’t have to. Liberals claim racism and discrimination is wrong yet they support AA which is racist and discriminatory. You’re not seeing the hypocrisy
We're back to that? I've already explained that they don't see discrimination against whites as equally harmful to discrimination against minorities. So Its not really hypocritical. Its more like choosing the lesser of 2 evils.
But it is racist and discriminatory period
@joanofarcher Here let me help you AA will allow a less qualified person to get a position over a more qualified position due to their race or gender this is both racist and sexist no matter what way you dress it up. Therefore it is a hypocritical position, they can deny it based on how they feel about that type of discrimination f they wish but facts don't care about your feelings.
@Ámayas_20 You feel that discriminating against a white man is the same as discriminating against a woman or minority. Proponents of AA would argue these 2 things are not equal and that you are doing more harm by discriminating against the woman/minority because of their underrepresentation in various fields. One can agree or disagree with that sentiment but at its core its not based in hypocrisy. Honestly you would be better served by arguing that hiring discrepancies exist for reasons other than discrimination. The hypocrisy argument goes nowhere for reasons I've just discussed.
You're point is null, it doesn't matter how they feel it's race/sex based discrimination making it racist and sexist.
@Ámayas_20 But its not just how they "feel". They can actually cite numbers that show where these groups are under represented. Its the moral equivalent of hitting someone with a pillow to prevent someone else from getting hit with a hammer. You're calling that hypocritical because they're both forms of violence. Sure, but they are not equal. One is far less damaging and is being done with the intention of helping people.
Fuck the intent. It’s black/white. You either support racism and discrimination or you don’t. Which is it?
@Ámayas_20 you almost sound conservative today
I disagree. I think its complicated. I think some people are born disadvantaged. However Im not sure that race based affirmative action is the best way to combat that in 2019. Let me ask you this, would you be opposed to a class based system of affirmative action; meaning people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds would be given preferential hiring regardless of race or gender?
No I wouldn’t
Actually I would, I don't believe that will help anything. I'd support not letting people in because mummy and daddy fund something though.
@Poormanscomedian I've told you a million times just fuck off
