Why do so many people forget slavery didn't end racism?

Anonymous
I've heard time and time again "No black person alive was a slave, they need to get over it" but I never hear talk about how redlining still affects people or how black Americans have only had legal equal rights for roughly 80 years. I think it's a serious issue that people think the only struggle black people in America faced was slavery when 99% of you were taught about MLK Jr, Rosa Parks, and Brown vs the Board of Education.
Is this not taught in school enough? Do people willfully ignore the effects of segregation? Do people not understand the effects of said era?
