Freedom or Security?

This is a question that's quickly becoming more and more relevent, so I'd like to hear your thoughts.

What's more important? Freedom or security?

Security is safe. We all want to be able to walk around without fearing for our lives, but the price of that safety is personal freedom, and often leads to totalitarian governments.

Freedom is a scary proposition. People can, and often do, amazing things when empowered with the freedoms to do so. The flipside of this is that there will always be a chance that someone will choose to abuse those freedoms for their personal gains.

Personally, I favor freedom over security, although I understand the desire to be safe.
