I meant “anxious” more like you defined it, “eager”. And my update I tried to explain my eagerness to see if anyone is held accountable, because it seems like a two tiered justice system, just as you noted, I have little faith in our institutions, I’m hoping that changes. I hope nothing like this happens again, and one way of ensuring that, is that those found to be guilty of whatever, are punished.
Also, d like to get this behind us, the sooner the better, I’m eager for that as well.
The problem begins here: "... I have little faith in our institutions..." Representative government, democracy, indeed, civilized living itself, as the Disraeli quote I mentioned alludes, is impossible without "institutions." This is the fallacy of a populist age.If only "the establishment" or "the swamp" can be cast aside and the natural spontaneous goodness of "the people" be given expression and a thousand flowers will bloom. All will be well and a lost Golden Age will be restored. Suffice to say, such is the hopeless romanticism of Rousseau's "noble savage." It is not true.Indeed, here is the paradox. You are counting on an institution - several in fact, the IG's office, the law, etc. - to ferret out the truth and effect justice. There is no escaping it and you are in a hall of mirrors.Moreover, there is a supposition that life is perfectible and that absolute fairness and justice are the norm. Striving for these is a moral obligation. Attaining these in this mortal veil of sorrows is not likely. You are, in this, pining for a finality that is not in the nature of politics. Indeed, to quote from Disraeli again - "Finality is not in the vocabulary of politics."Democracy in the absence of institutions is not democracy at all, but is rather the law of the jungle. Suffice to say, as any deer that has ever been eaten by a lion amply demonstrates, that is not democracy but survival of the fittest. Best then to place your trust in institutions. Populist shibboleths notwithstanding, there is little left without them.
I’m not hoping for a utopian like outcome, I understand there’s no such thing, but rather a fair and equal system where the elites don’t get away with murder, why is that too much to hope for?
And is it really too much to want the guilty noted, and punished? Is it common to expect that? You don’t have to respond, I’m just asking rhetorically, more like thinking out loud,I’m off to bed...
Thanks as always for your valuable insight and thought provoking ideas.
So presumably you would punish the President's conduct as well?My point being that the IG's report is not apt to end the discussion but will likely only begin it. My point being that the problem here is that partisans are defining justice as catharsis and vindication.By all means, seek out justice. Just be aware of your own biases and the ambiguities of your own position. I have no objection to the pursuit of justice and the punishment of the guilty. Rather, I simply appreciate the limitations of what the IG can deliver. Particularly in a polarized environment when each will view the findings through the prism of their own biases and can admit no faults on their side and no virtues on the other.
P. S. Thanks as always for your kind comments. Always a pleasure exchanging views with you.
But the IG report is real, not some fantasy as you imply.
I was being sarcastic. It's real- I'm just not going to hold my breath about it actually being 100% revealed. Sorry. I wasn't clearer.
Ok sarcasm is hard to convey in text, you almost need to reveal it just before or after
I share your doubts of accuracy and real justice.
Thank you for the MHO (not being sarcastic) :- )
The jerry springer show has been going on since forever. Like more than a dozen years? I’d say that’s a pretty successful show , right?Not that it matters, but Nixon was not impeached. He resigned. And the reasons they were going to impeach him is because an actual crime occurred. There is still no crime identified with Trump. BIG diff.As some guy long ago said: “Politics ain’t beanbag”... (ref your “backstabbing” comment)
Is that a pic of you dancing when you were just a tyke?😅😂🤣😁
Nah, that's AOC! https://i.imgur.com/mNJcW74.mp4

@Moonchild714- I’m so sorry that those memes triggered you,...😪😪😪. ... 😅😂🤣🤣😎
Btw- I’m aware of what the mueller report found. If you want to believe he’ll still get prosecuted for some non existent crime, that’s your right. My advice is to prepare to be triggered LOTS more times...🤣😂😅. 😎. 😎
