What is more persuasive: a rational argument or emotional pleading?
Let's say you are in an argument with someone about climate change (a highly-contentious topic of conversation that very readily ruffles some feathers because of obvious political polarization in the last couple of years) and you have not made up your mind, one way or the other. What is more convincing to you: a calm, well-stated and crafted explanation complete with statistics, citations and an appeal to the audience to fact-check the sources given OR an emotional diatribe about how climate change is ruining the planet and the majesty of Earth and only terrible people with no conscience just sit by idly and let it happen?
