The whole thing illustrates why we never should have been in Syria in the first place. We didn’t make a difference there and now we’re leaving an ally on the battlefield to be slaughtered, which obviously isn’t honoreable. Personally, we should embrace and adopt alternative fuel sources, so that our foreign policy doesn’t have to be so concerned with Middle East stability.
Russian is already doing it for a long time, and more than US, but sure let's compare the abilities of small countries to the abilities of of US? yes US don't have to stay there, but US has left the Kurds who was on US side without help, to be smashed by crazy Erdogan.
The UK and France are powerful European countries
At some point you’ll have to realize that most countries are not capable of sustaining a mission like the US in that area, except for probably the French (which do have special forces in Syria) and the British (which will stay as long as the US stays), and even both require US presence in general over there. The simple fact is that the US can do far more with its military in that area than other nations. And that others cannot support a mission like it does not change the fact that this decision by Trump is a) incredibly short-sighted and b) stupid.
Really now? What is to gain from intervention here? Iraq and Libya did not turn out all that well.
@CurmudgeonFor starters, stabbing allies in the back is pretty stupid. Especially the main constant factor supporting the US in their regional goals of naturally preventing expansion of e. g. Iran in the general area and being instrumental to the US eliminating ISIS.Secondly, humanitarian crisis with reports of warning for ethnic cleansing by the Turkish. Thirdly, hit on the credibility of the US. US promises to support the Kurds if they destroy defensive positions. Kurds destroy defensive positions. And then the US quits. Fourthly, letting the situation escalate much further with, while the mere US presence basically prevents all of this. It is not like a) the US presence was remotely large and b) many Americans died. Fifth, you’re basically forcing the Kurds to align themselves with Iran, Hezbollah and Syria. Great job in preventing spread of Iranian influence in the area, which is dangerous to basically all US allies in the area. Sixth, the Kurds are holding ISIS detainees. Attack the Kurds and ISIS detainees will inevitably escape imprisonment. Considering there are literally thousands of ISIS terrorists in Kurdish custody (and no the US never held them), you’re creating the risk of even more ISIS in the region.
America had 50 troops there... other countries can't handle that? lol
Well no. There have been a couple thousand US troops there
You go over and fight.
@Rissyanne Are you ever capable of making up a reply that is logical to post?
Since you have a hard time reading. If you are against Trump pulling out of Syria... you go over and take their place.
Oh I got what you meant. It was just a stupid reply
"For starters, stabbing allies in the back is pretty stupid."But which allies? While the Erdogan regime is loathsome, cooperation between the US and Turk militaries goes back decades, and I suspect there is still hope that the military will step in to prevent the Turk government from going too far Islamic, as it has in the past. Perhaps the USA can broker a deal between the Kurds and the Turks, but when you admonish us to not let down allies, what happens when allies clash? Moreover, what can a small handful of special forces do, other than act as a tripwire for larger USA military intervention? And is the threat of larger USA military intervention credible, given a very reluctant and divided USA public? And finally, there is the simple fact that the USA is stretched too thin, has too many commitments, and is divided at home. So any intervention, no matter how noble or justified, is gong to be botched. And I suspect all sides, friend or foe, know this.
No you are whining about our troops being pulled out. Put your money where your mouth is and help them.
No, it’s just a stupid reply by you Rissyanne
You can’t reply because you like to run your mouth but at your heart your chicken shit
No, because your reply is simply nonsensical and clearly showing incapacity to make a relevant comment
No your just chicken shit
Meh I naturally shouldn’t expect anything else from you. Have you ever actually formed a remotely decent argument on GAG?
a couple thousand? they can't handle that? the uk ALONE has tens of thousands of troops
Yeah no. The feasibility of Deploying people abroad in a situation like Northern Syria depends on far more than whether you have enough troops.
And even if the British and French could support it, it changes nothijg about the sheer stupidity of the US pulling out
Talks with no meaning behind the words. The USA will never leave the Middle East until they either annex the entire region or create puppet states to gain a steady supply of cheap petrol.Obama said he'd get out of the Middle East, never did. Trump says the same thing, will never happen.
Well, we could invade Canada... :D
One does get tired of the ingrates abroad, who like to lord it over the vulgar Americans but can't project their own power and rely on the USA to do it for them.
Idgaf that they're pulling out of Syria.I care that they're helping Israel in creating an unstable Middle East.
The Left will basically disagree with ANYTHING Trump does. If Obama pulled out they would be praising him
