I am the same, never missed an election either since I turned 18.
@Claireluvskaren Tip of the hat to you. Frankly, it is not that hard - although I do think that people who do not want to vote should be pushed into doing so. The irony is that you tend to get higher voter participation when times re bad because the stakes of politics are so much higher. Most people don't see the connection of politics in their daily lives and therefore tend not to pay attention to it. Not for nothing were the voter turnouts in the elections that brought the Nazis to power in Germany high turnout affairs - upwards of 80% turnout.Society was unstable and the economy was in turmoil and so politics intruded upon their daily lives. By contrast, in the relatively peaceful and prosperous United States, voter turnout tends to hover right at the 50% mark for a presidential election - far less for lower level elections. The irony being that low voter turnout is indicative of a relatively healthy, stable social order.
TYPE-O: This sentence: "Frankly, it is not that hard - although I do think that people who do not want to vote should be pushed into doing so."Should read: "Frankly, it is not that hard - although I do think that people who do not want to vote should NOT be pushed into doing so."
thanks for the MHO!!!

That’s probably the same election I voted in today. I wasn’t going to vote because none of the parties running align to the problems I think need to be tackled but I changed my mind. Better to have some sort of say so I can complain about the result after 😂
Yes, that’s where I got the inspiration for the question 😂
Can I ask who did you vote for? FF? FG? SF? Greens?
I voted Greens. I nearly didn’t vote at all because I don’t think any party had said they’re going to do enough to fix the country with the state it’s in housing and healthcare wise. Are you from Ireland too?
Yeah the housing prices is ridiculous. I'm not Irish but I live in Ireland, I can't vote in general election.
It is! And I’m going to be looking in the next couple of years to build so that was on my priority list along with the healthcare and mental health services. There wasn’t one party that ticked all those boxes for me unfortunately.
Dang, that sucks. You should run for election and scrap that law.
@CaptainSmartass It doesn't bother me, to be honest. I always go to a pre-voting centre because I usually work on Saturdays when voting is done, it takes 10 mins out of my day as there's one just down the road from where I live.
