Is fearlessness a virtue of stupidity?

Some people argue that the smarter you are the less things scare you as you're able to rationally think about them and see solutions also you're not easily fooled by superstition.

Others would say that the the less smart you are the less you're able to recognize the danger in a situation and therefore exhibit fearlessness only because you don't know how serious things are.

Which one of these theories do you support?
