First of all everyone is reliant on imports in some way shape or form. In a way the fact that you can import it in the first place just means you can focus more of your domestic production on.. well production.. It is not a sign of weakness.Navy means literally shit all and again oil is an important resource but trading for it normally is a completely acceptable means of obtaining it and is not a direct sign of weakness.Dont speak of debt if you want to defend USA's super power status.China is projecting monstrous amounts of power, far more than what USA is currently. They are more or less controlling the world right now through soft power projection and you do not seam to even realize it which is scary in and of itself.
@Soteris relying on some kind of imports is not the same as relying on 80% of your imports for ENERGY. the cornerstone of an economyalso no; some nations do not rely on imports for example. america is one of the most economically isolated countries in the world. according to the 2018 worldbank fact book as a % of GDP america has the lowest % involvement in global trade of any country besides south sudanyes relying on imports is always a weakness. you are clearly not professionally trained in geopolitics as i amnavy is incredibly important, it is the cornerstone of geopolitical power. without it you cannot guarantee your importsagain; you clearly only view the world as if it is always going to be peaceful and nobody is ever going to blockade the ocean and stop trade... that's going to happen soon
Why does it matter? A superpower can easily ensure that their imports are filled. Their imports are virtually as guaranteed as if they themselves made it or perhaps even more so if they have the option of switching who they import it from based on availability. As economically independent as USA is its not completely independent and as I said before, that is irrelevant. A super power can ensure its needs are filled. If I had to guess you are considering the consequences of a war but that is a newbie mistake. Sure super powers usually has a military aspect but that is by no means guaranteed or even required. There is nothing wrong with having a super power that has virtually no military power and avoids wars at all cost and instead focuses on other aspects. Its also funny how you touted Americas uninvolvement in global trade as a strength when trade is one of the most powerful means to both strengthen your own country and influence other countries there is.Again the navy is not important. I mean the Soviet Union had shit all for navy as an example. Also yes. I am viewing the world as if its "always going to be peaceful" because part of influencing the world is ensuring just that. Sure there might be wars going on but as a super power you can make sure that is someone elses problem. What good is global influence for if you can't do even this much?
@Soteris if a supwerpower can easily ensure its imports... and china can't ensure its imports... then china must not be a super power (spoiler: it isn't)a superpower controls the world. it does not need to be engaged in the global system. the global system must rely on the superpower.china relies in every way on the global system set up by the americans, they NEED to export and import. america on the other hand could simply buy from somewhere else or not at all. china needs america, america does not need china.navy is all important, it is almost the only thing that matters... its funny you used the soviet union as an example... THEY COLLAPSED, your own example proves you wrong lol the soviet union fell apartno influencing the world does not mean we should maintain peace. and it doesn't mean we can or will. the past 75 years of bretton woods have been the most peaceful ever... but that time is ending soon
All super powers collapse, so too will USA. I think this speaks the highest of your lack of understanding on this topic.

Your influence is dying among the younger generation
No, not really. Younger people love pop culture more.
