Fauci: "For reasons that are inconceivable and not understandable, Americans don’t believe science and they don’t believe authority.” Do you agree?

Sorry, I had to squish the quote down to make it fit in the question title. Here's the full quote:

“One of the problems we face in the United States is that, unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are ― for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable ― they just don’t believe science and they don’t believe authority.”

Fauci said this to the podcast “Learning Curve".

He also added, “That’s unfortunate because, you know, science is truth.”

I like to know what you guys think. Is Dr. Fauci right? Or is this just more disinformation from the "deep state"?
