Why do you think conspiracy theories about the coronavirus originating in a lab are so popular among the right?

I think it's because they have this whole idea that if you just remove all regulations on an economy, the free market system of supply and demand will be more than enough to discourage unsafe practices because most people won't partake in them anyway. The notion that it was removing government regulations about how many different species of animals can be kept in close proximity in wet markets is what allowed this virus to come into being because it calls out their dogmatic world view. I mean part of their perspective was true; the practice is unsafe and most Chinese people don't buy food from wildlife wet markets but what we can see is that even if most people don't participate in it, the few that did allow the virus to arise and ruin it for everyone. It really exposes their perception of "freedom" as the freedom to put your luxuries above the well being of others. Some are even trying to say shit like "Trump warned us about China and this proves him right" when Trump has been trying to undermine regulations about how many antibiotics can be used in livestock feed.
