Brits, what do you think of the government redefining a COVID-19 death?

goaded
Two months ago: "Deaths of people who have had a positive test result"

Today: "Deaths within 28 days of positive test" (specifically: "Daily number of deaths of people who have had a positive test result and died within 28 days")

My first reaction was that it was a trick to reduce the number of dead by nearly 10%. So were my second and third reactions. On the other hand, this definition really does include people who got run over by a car who had been previously infected. Any idea why the count isn't of cause of death on the death certificate?
