"Trump had 71 million votes vs Obama’s highest at 65 million votes. Trump would have beaten Obama."This is an incorrect way of looking at those numbers. Trump and Biden got more votes because the US population has increased by almost 30 million since 2008, which in turn results in an increase in voter registration. Trump/Biden didn't get more votes than previous Presidents because they were more popular. It was because they (Trump and Biden) were participating in an election where there were simply more people voting due to more people being apart of the national population. I wager whoever runs for President in either 2024, 2028, or 2032 will easily beat Trump/Biden's numbers.
@Starrk Lol, it isn’t “an incorrect way of looking at those numbers”. It is a very fact based way. It was a record turnout for the past many decades percentage wise, more than Obama in 2008.
None of what you said changes the fact that Biden won the election.
Did you look at the first two words of my original post? What I am saying is the Democrats did not do well other than Biden. Trumpism won’t be going away. Other candidates will come and more democrats will be defeated. 71 million and will grow. 71 million and more as some voted Republican for House, Senate and local elections even if they voted Biden for President. 71 million plus who will turn out for mid-terms and that will change things even more.
Comparing Trump 2020 election numbers to Obama's 2008 numbers and then producing the conclusion "Trump would have beaten Obama" is a very simplistic way of looking at our election. If Joe Biden was capable of beating Trump, I am 100% positive Barack Obama would have demolished him had he been eligible to run again. Hell, the vast majority of Biden's support came from the fact that he was Obama's Vice President. As for your take on Trumpism, even that is debatable, and the reason why is because it's a catch 22. Yes, Trumpism was enough to get Trump elected in 2016 against an unlikable candidate in Hilary and it was enough to hand many victories for the Republican Party at the state level. However, the inverse of Trumpism is that it alienated many Independents/moderate Republicans from the party, which in turn compelled them to vote for Biden. In addition to that, it reinvigorated the Democratic base to come out in droves and vote for the sole purpose of getting Trump out of office. Also, it cannot be overstated that Trumpism cost Republicans: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia, with the last two being Republican strongholds for well over 20 years. So while Trumpism is no doubt a strong force, it seems to have led to the formation of an even stronger force for the sole purpose of countering it.
@Starrk Trump because President because of Obama so perhaps he wouldn’t have beaten him in 2008 when people didn’t know him. In 2012 he would have beat Obama. Obama claims Trump was elected as a reaction to a black man in the White House which is a slap at the people who voted for him and then Trump. No, Obama started to destroy America... this led to Trump. Defund Police and crazy takeovers of cities led people to vote against Trump and for Biden BUT at the same time voted Republican. Only one of those things went away, Trump. The Democrats are the party of anarchy.
This is a really stupid fucking argument.
Well, that was short, salty and meaningless... typical of the Left. The left likes arguments that can fit on a bumper sticker as that is all their people can absorb.
