Originally, I'm German (without patriotism or love for that country, though)'Her' party is medium right-wing, and conservative. Also wrong: Germany does not tolerate 'illegal immigration', or is inactive towards it.It's just that 'we' no longer put unwanted people into concentration camps.
@andreasderjuengere: Now we all know how it works- the Greens propose something and Merkel pushes it through the Bundestag- what part of their agenda hasn’t become law? She’s purged anyone conservative from the CDU leadership or cabinet (like Merz or Schaueble). Altmaier, von der Leyen, Spahn and AKK Are hardly conservative.
Compared with 'conservatives' from other countries you may be right. But to assume her being a socialist simply because she's 'not right enough' looks very incorrect to me.
@andreasderjuengere: I would consider her an opportunist- calling her a socialist implies she has a coherent ideology (which she doesn’t) and that she is interested in redistributing wealth and income from people other than the middle class, which isn’t true- Germany‘s effective tax rates for high earners are not high). She is a totalitarian though.
There is nothing conservative about her within a German political context. Maybe someone should do some investigative journalism to learn exactly why she came to join the CDU and get a cabinet post so soon after reunification.
@andreasderjuengere That is incorrect. She is "conservative" according to the party name, not in behavior as none of her policies are particularly conservative i. e. conserving original german principles. She is a socialist, she has pushed socialism and she does allow for well not "illegal" immigration just forced acceptence of migrants who are not legal citizens and have no intention of becoming legal citizens. Personally I don't care what she does, she is germanies leader and if they dislike her policies they should get rid of her and if they like her policies they should keep her, its their choice not ours, but that doesn't change what she is.(and the "conservatives"(in name only) in Europe are absoltuely far leftists both based upon American metrics as well as the past views of those nations (as conservation of the culture tradition etc. is what a conservative is all about which Merkel doesn't care about).
@hellionthesagereborn … I bow to the wisdom and superiour knowledge of the almighty U. S. of A.I apologize that I had forgotten that only YOUR definitions count. Please continue teaching me about my own culture.
@andreasderjuengere Its not "My" definition. That is the definition of conservative: "holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion." That is from the dictionary, their is no other definition. You do not get to change the meaning of a word simply because you want to. Also being of the US has nothing to do with any of my statements beyond pointing out that americans will consider conservatives in Europe to be far left since for us, the US conservative is by definition a conservative and by definition a european conservative is NOT a conservative (unless of course you wish to pretend that the word conservative means what ever you would want it to mean at any given time but then why have language at all if your just going to ignore the rules that govern it?).I also never mentioned anything about German culture, I pointed out that if they are not conservative by definition then they are not by definition conservative. Pretty straight forward concept with no room for misunderstanding (so how you found it is beyond me). Second I pointed out that if you have socalist policies, you can be defined as a socialist (at least in part) ergo she is at least partially inclined towards socialism due to her socialistic policies and thus is a socialist. Again, definitions of words, you don't get to change them at whim in order to try and win an argument, the definition is what the definition is not what you want it to be (again, all of this seems so straight forward I don't know why your having issues with understanding it). All of this is decidedly not cultural but clarifying definitions and her general policy positions. So why mention culture (unless you also don't understand the definition of culture)?
@hellionthesagereborn Socialism, and wellfare state are not identical.
@andreasderjuengere No they are not, thankfully no one ever argued they were. I stated she has socialist policies because she does. She regulates businesses, what days businesses are allowed to operate, who they can hire, how much they have to pay etc. that is socialistic policies ergo she has instated socialistic policies. So why did you mention welfare states (which are also awful) if no one mentioned it)?
@hellionthesagereborn The laws and regulations about business hours date back until 1891.Present employment legislation was very much shaped during the 1960's and 70's.These are not Angie's ideas. She just keeps things as they are and were (which is on conservative idea?)Since G'mny has a relatively strong and stable economy - despite of 'leaning left' in its general setup - I don't see why this would be a general disadvantage.I am aware that U. S. people define conservatism differently - which does not mean that they are universally right. Also, a (i. e.) British conservative would have own and different ways of being conservative - different from 'your' or from 'our' ways.
@andreasderjuengere Oh? So she hasn't added any laws? Not one that regulate businesses? Not a single one? Not a single one that bars certain businesses from functioning on certain days? You sure about that? Her green energy policies? Or was that some one else? Also the banning of free speech while not strictly socialist is a tactic used by socialists (and yes, germany doesn't allow free speech. They arrest people for words, their is nothing free about that).
@hellionthesagereborn That's what I meant earlier: ONLY 'American' definitions are allowed. I wonder how you guys interpret African procedures. No wonder that you guys always get involved in wars. You are too stiff necked.
@andreasderjuengere: Those wars are waged by profiteers and neocons- ordinary people don’t want any involvement in them
@Avicenna So let's hope that in the future we see even more 'normal' people :)To continue with Angie: since she 'took over', Gmny has seen a lot of reductions in 'social services'. I use to say that this country (in its governmental set-up and non-private legislation) sees the citizens as possession. It should be the other way round. There are loud enough voices asking for changes - Angie ignores them for the sake of status quo. Certainly, Germans will hardly be as 'conservative' as i. e. an average 'American' appears to be. Angie and her buddies have no intention to be politically or socially innovative.
@andreasderjuengere No, not at all, I'm saying definitions matter. You don't get to say that a word means x, then turn around and say it means Y instead when its convinient. Thats stupid. So again, using the actual definition of socialist she is at the very least pushing socialist policies, she is on the far left and thus everything stated was accurate and you just don't have the guts to own it. Its okay to admit your wrong, its not okay to double down when you have been proven to be wrong.
@hellionthesagereborn... this leads nowhere. You're just on one other side of culture as I am.Keep up your American paranoia about non-american stuff - live long and prosper.
@andreasderjuengere Not really, you just stated that the definition of socialism and words changes depending on were your standing and I was pointing out that is not the case. I mean does the word murder change in definition depending on what chunk of dirt your on? Like if I kill a person in the US its murder but if I do it in germany its a birthday party? I mean come on man, be realistic. The meaning of words don't change like that and we both know it, all you have to do is admit you were wrong and move on (and that is why this is going nowhere, you had no argument, you said something stupid (it happens we all do it) but instead of just owning it and moving on you chose to try and construct a narrative lie to justify the stupid thing you said. Just don't do that and their will be no problems.
@hellionthesagereborn bla bla
@andreasderjuengere Sorry you can't handle being called out princess.

Why is it very negative may I ask?
Because she isn't a good leader, she doesn't have consequent policies, all she does is to stay in power rather than doing something for the people.
This is why democracy is a bad idea. 😳
