No, they weren't. They were vicious, take-no-prisoners warriors and conquerors, but so was everyone else at the time. Hitler took control of a democratic society and turned it into a murder machine.
@goadedFrom my perspective, Hitler was correct on some things, not about others.
Like what? I mean, liking dogs, good, killing millions of Jews, Romaines and Gays, not. One does rather get outweighed by the other.
Computers, genetic engineering, worldwide communication...
@goaded: Computers isn't natural human behavior. I'm talking about there's nothing new under the sun when it comes to human behavior.
True, but at least instant worldwide communication can be used as a tool to avoid making the same mistakes, as long as not too many people believe the lies.Of course, it can also be used to propagate the lies.
Trump imposed a tremendous amount of less government regulation during his administration. Like he actually fought to give government less power to intervene in business practices and taxation practices. How is that comparable to hitler? Sure, you don't like Trump but that makes absolutely no sense when democrats seek more federal power, and more regulation.
@Not_Average Trump's not attempting to use raw political power to hold onto office at the moment, at all? Not encouraging his supporters to think of everyone else as evil cheats?
@goaded He’s allowed to investigate and suspect the election included fraudulent activity. The democrats did this in 2016 for three years. Comparing hitler to Trump because of that is wildly far fetched and inaccurate.
@Not_Average He's allowed to, but he should provide evidence. The democrats did not try to delay Trump becoming president for three years. It's not that far-fetched, but would you prefer I compared him to Putin?
@goaded They’re working on providing the evidence. It took the dems 3 years of investigating, and they didn’t find anything substantial enough to hold up. These things take time. This does not make him comparable to hitler. That’s entirely irrational and extreme.
And yes they did. They did everything in their power to hold it back.
@Not_Average No, you start lawsuits about voter fraud with evidence of voter fraud, you don't say "I think there may be evidence next month". Clinton conceded within days. The investigation was hampered in several ways. There was no counter-intelligence investigation of Trump; Mueller was given to understand that one was going on independent of his criminal investigation, and the FBI was given to understand that Mueller was doing it. Plus multiple people were convicted of obstruction of justice, which apparently worked.Like I said, would you prefer Trump was being compared to Putin?
@goaded yeah and Clinton was never president. If you truly want to compare Trump to Nazi germany, then go ahead. I know nothing about Putin.
@Not_Average Well, Putin was president of Russia for the allowed two terms, then got himself made Prime Minister for a term, with a puppet as president, then became President again, got the constitution amended, so he could serve more than two consecutive terms, and is now trying to get a law passed immunising himself and his family from prosecution. In the meantime, doctors who raised the alarm about covid-19 decided to use exactly the same method of "suicide", opposition politicians have been locked up, people worldwide have been poisoned with polonium or Novachok, he's invaded two neighboring countries...Of course, most of that didn't happen in his first term.
It doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes.
@goaded I wouldn't say so, there is consistent human behavior. That is all. It's kind of a mantra to repeat that phrase and it boxes in people's thinking, which I don't like.
You're not wrong, but "consistent human behavior" is often taken advantage of by unscrupulous people, and that's what we've seen over the last five or six years. And it's still going on. Learning from history involves spotting these things and raising the alarm before they become disasters.
Then why was it so close? :(
