I've lived the past 50+ years of my life dedicated to it.
Unfortunately, with the election of Reagan in 1980, the GOP fucked over America regarding progress in these areas because such progress advocated by Democrats would adversely affect Big Oil and the automotive industry, thus they donated heavily to the GOP and set America back 25 years in alternative energy and environmental research and development.
That pissed me off because the GOP basically took away my future. At least I am getting a sense of satisfaction that, while my generation failed you by supporting the GOP all this time, your generation recognized that you were getting fucked over and are doing something about it.
By the way, consider reading the 1975 novel "Ecotopia" by Ernest Callenbach. The formal name is: "Ecotopia: The Notebooks and Reports of William Weston"
Okay thank you, I would read this book, I recommend you also the book of the philosopher Michel Serres, natural contract, I do not know if it has been translated into English, I fear in that the electric cars, solar panels, and wind turbine, need metals rare, therefore we only delocate pollution and become dependent on china
China is irrelevant. They are not the sole source for precious metals and, furthermore, where there's a will, there's a way to develop other technologies not reliant on precious metals.
Sorry for m'y Bad English , ah great for the book, but China remains the country which has the most and it really does an unfair competition, you may be right but governments have got their technologies that they promote, it all smells like normal big industries that have found a new way to make a lot of money
None of these things will save the world. They're all terrible for the environment. The reason they're pushed as being more "clean" is because we're close to running out of oil and we rely on that for energy right now.
The creation of an electric car creates only very slightly less pollution than a normal car. Most of the pollution is created in the manufacturing, particularly the production of the chemicals and materials required for the battery.
We also create most of our electricity by burning fossil fuels and through nuclear fission anyway. We're running out of oil, and nuclear power isn't clean either.
The creation of solar panels also causes heavy pollution because of the materials required.
Wind turbines are ineffective at creating enough electricity mainly because they depend on the wind which obviously changes, if there's no wind they're not working. And they kill a lot of birds.
Not one of these alternatives is anywhere near as effective as burning fossil fuels, meaning that if we're forced to convert to those, we'll run into a lot of problems.
The modern world as we know it won't exist for much longer for this reason.
yes but I do not believe in the end of the world is the oil it is not yet the end lol

Probably not. All of these other things will buy us time, but there is no alternative which is as efficient as oil, and we rely on it for most things. Let's pretend that I'm wrong and that we'll constantly have newer forms of energy and that they work just as good as oil, these things still cause great amounts of pollution. At some point there will then be massive food shortages since they destroy the local agriculture. Either way it's all fucked.
Even with renewable energy sources, energy is still lost. Always is; that’s a law of thermodynamics. But I do like ecology. Not one of my favorite branches of bio but I love bio nonetheless.
@ChefPapiChulo Good point. I shouldn’t have said “lost.” I meant that it is turned to heat (which is still energy) by friction. I’m surprised you said something without trying to insult me. Maybe I underestimated your intelligence.
interesting, but for me I don't believe in solar panels and wind turbines, in fact it also pollutes because of rare metals and we close our eyes to that, because it does not pollute at home so we prefer to close our eyes and there is a lot of money to be made
You’re right. Which part was interesting - where I misworded or the fact that this guy hates me? Lol I’m kidding, he’ll get over it. Do you study ecology?
no I do not study ecology, but I am fighting the new religion of ecology, no I have copied this answer because as I am not very good in English it is difficult for me to express certain ideas correctly so it was easier to copied this answer that I had already made
I'd like to see a lot more being in harmony with natural processes. Interestingly, in my profession I am (since a couple of months now) at work to integrate 'environment friendly' technology - solar and wind power is a large part of it. However - I believe that swapping energy sources is only half the way: we should also re-think the way we consume (power, but also other resources) and get to a less wasteful 'lifestyle'. Example: Instead of (only) more electric cars, we could also spend a few thoughts of how 'necessary' each ride in such a car is.
interesting, but for me I don't believe in solar panels and wind turbines, in fact it also pollutes because of rare metals and we close our eyes to that, because it does not pollute at home so we prefer to close our eyes and there is a lot of money to be made
It's not the last and only hope of course. For now I see it like this: a 'harm' caused that is -say- 30% of what a greater harm does is already a gain: we buy time. To be totally consequent, we must go back to horse carts, candle light and sailing ships. Which then will cause OTHER problems. To make money from doing something that's 'good' for many (or everyone?) is not necessarily wrong. Where we can discuss if Mr. Musk is a good guy, of course.

Ecology as it is, is a scam. Most of the solution you're proposing are in fact polluting a lot, and people into ecology are often against nuclear energy, which means going back to more polluting energy such as coal. Not to mention that most measures asked in ecology will just impact the poorer people, making everything they have access to much more expensive. Food, transportation, clothing, entertainment... All of these would just create a huge gap between the rich and the poor in every aspect. Real ecology would be to go for a depopulation. Limit births in every country so they don't need as much ressources.

They sound good in theory but actually end up hurting the environment a lot more than using fossil fuels and certainly nuclear energy while being unreliable as well.
Wind turbines are pretty stupid, they don't generate much power, they're fucking huge eyesores and if the wind gets too strong they explode. The other things are fine but they're a long way short of giving us all the power we need.

I support studying our environment... and fossil fuels will run dry.
So what do you think of the fact that in reality, with all its energy systems, electric car, solar panels, and wind turbines we are in reality only relocating pollution
in their composition they are metals, and moreover China create an unfair competition, and after that we become dependent on China which is the country which has the most metals even if other countries have some.
All its technologies create pollution, their manufacture requires metals which create enormous pollution, not to mention the independence in China that it will create, of course large industrialists promote renewable energies because they earn a lot of money with that , environmentalists live in a world of don't want to see this truth
(Slaps face again) our industrial factories will produce pollution until clean energy is available. It becomes available by producing it in factories. So any technology manufactured will “pollute”.
The question is whether we should invest in renewables now or when it’s too late.
Haha😂 You as long as the pollution is not at home you do not mind, it does not matter if we pollute a lot with these rare metals for the needs of its technologies, moreover recent studies say that the electric car pollutes almost as much as a car. thermal car, moreover you do not régle the dependence on China that it will create, and finally Germany which has invested a lot of money in wind turbines and solar panels were forced to reopen coal plants, they wanted to stop the nuclear and here they are, polluting more now lol😂
