Do you have a better opinion of the Military than you do for the Police?

- As a man still currently serving, I have respect for both military and police, the latter because a lot of guys from military head that road too, but overall, each have their not so great issues.
I have met some of the most humble and down to earth men and women in my time as a soldier and commander and learned much from them for which I believe to be invaluable.
The biggest issues are the bad apples both get that always get the limelight and spotlight attention that paints us as terrible and fucked up. Military has sexual assault, divorce and suicide rates that are terrible. Police have bad cops that the media will pounce on and use as the base template for all officers.
Personally speaking going into the military was one of my biggest decisions and one I would make again, albeit a little differently as in enlisting and serving a couple of years before going through ROTC/OCS over direct commission out of college through ROTC. I honestly don't like most of the officers I work with and will take hanging out and working with the enlisted any day.0|10|0Is this still revelant? - I've been born in a military family my family from my father side all served in the military and if you compare the different between the military and police in some cases they care the sane but they are completely different the police suppose to serve and protect the people in there district with some training but in the military there job is to protect and serve the country every day they are training and every day there are soldiers out there fighting so you civilian can sleep at night not worring if there is going to be a nation attack I don't have to serve in the military but I am cause my family served and it is an honor to serve for the people you care about0|10|0Is this still revelant?

- I respect MPs slightly more then the police. My father in law was a MP and civilian police so I know a good amount about how they differ. His job in the army was far more difficult than being a civilian officer. Got shot multiple times, had plates in his necks from the injuries, terrible PTSD. Definitely more honorable then doing some traffic stops and arresting people. Worst he got there was a few hand scratches and some small PTSD.0|10|0Is this still revelant?
Ah my bad read this as military police but still yes I respect all army for the same reasons

519- I think firefighters get more respect than both around here (central Europe).
Military has more rigorous training, a bit more discipline and stricter rules.
Police, on the other side, handle much more troublemakers.
There are bad seeds in both professions, but so far my encounters with police were all positive for me - and I have seen them handle very tense situations professionally.
... so, I'd say equal.0|10|0 - I served in the military and am now serving in Law Enforcement. The cultures and structures are about the same. The only difference between the military and police is the military gets less publicity. Police officers have a higher level of accountability within their own ranks.0|10|0
- My opinion of military people in combat positions is equal to that of the police. My opinion of military people in non-combat positions, however, is marginally better than those in combat positions and the police.0|10|0
- Anonymous1 moMy dad was in the military, I work for a military hospital, and my boyfriend is in the military so you can say I love the military and think very highly of them.0|40|0
Even if you haven't served, thank you for your service and the service of your family. Please let them know how appreciated they are on my behalf.
- To potentially support politically sanctioned (mass) murder is at a lot lower human level to me
than
a policeman who puts his safety at risk to protect individual people from individual villains.0|00|1 - Anonymous1 moNot at all. The police are at the whim of their retarded mayor. Remember when Bill de Blasio said it was OK for people to throw water on cops? Try that in North Korea.0|30|0
This, so much this! I was all for defunding police, but not for the same reasons every once else was. Put that funding toward the sheriffs who are accountable to the people, not to lobbyists!
- Yes, but not as a result of the service members. Whole there exists bureaucracy in both branches, it is rampant in large police precincts.0|10|0
- Anonymous1 moHell no. At least police unions look after their officers.
Military dont care about their female soilders. Military men dont listen to female superiors and constantly have scenarios of men raping their allies and then it gets covered up.0|10|0Thus is a really great point. I an bed opposite from you, but not because I disagree with you, but because we interpreted the question differently.
I answered that I have a better opinion of military, but not because of the servicemen, but because of the nature of the two branches. Large police agencies often don't serve the people but lobbyists. Though now that I give it a second thought, I suppose military does as well (i. e. every war we've had in the last 70 years).Military men do listen to female superiors, not sure why you think they don't. How long do you think they'd stay in the military if they didn't.
And military veterans are as a group more disciplined than non-veterans, so it's unlikely that they are more likely to be a dirty cop or one that uses too much force.- Show All Show Less
I think she was saying there's a lack of respect for women referencing the high sexual assault rate on women in the military that never get resolved. One high ranking woman in the military recently in response to a popular case said, "get used to it and suck it up if you want to move up in the military."
@Hogwheels: I disagree- the meaning of what she said was unambiguous, but let's assume your interpretation is accurate, it's still wrong- no female servicemember is sexually harassed by SUBORDINATES.
- I hold both in equally high regard. Both train to put their lives on the line for my safety and security and I'm very grateful for that.0|10|0
- Absolutely. There are bad people in every job but the military has the most oversight and control.0|10|0
- Yes, but there were 2 National Guards arrested for being on far-right and making comments about being for Donald Trump?0|11|0
- IN the broad scope of life, I respect and honor them both.0|20|0
- Anonymous1 moI respect both. Also, it's not uncommon for people to leave the military and then directly enter law enforcement.0|10|0
- Yes and its not even close. The military and solider is a way more honorable in prestige than a street security guard aka cop.0|10|0
- absolutely... but they're not on the streets every day making really hard decisions...0|10|0
- As a group they take the Oath they swore more seriously.0|10|0
- I don't hold one in particularly higher esteem than the other.0|10|0
- No they are both scum because just like Nazis they are following orders and complying with tyranny since 2020.0|00|1
- Anonymous1 moYes, but I dont think that most police are bad either0|10|1
- No, not in the slightest.0|00|0
- Anonymous1 moIn the military we were all green.0|20|0
