Because communism has never been about equality. In order to be communisitic you have to be totalitarian and authoritarian. Your not asking for equality, your demanding that all others obey you or die (because that is the only options they have, to either obey or to be imprisoned and if they resist that to be killed). But your not demanding that, your demanding that those you feel have more then you be punished, that the government come in and put a gun to the head of those you feel have "to much"(with no real care as to how hard they worked, or saved, or what they did to get that money and wealth to begin with (not very equal if your not considering what one did to get that money (if I work eighty hours a week and some one only works fourty, I have more but I gave up more to get it. If I take a high risk job and make more then some one who took a low risk job with lower pay, I am risking more to get more. That is equality yet communism ignores those factors).

The irony in this is that those with the most wealth and most power actually support communism specifically because it doesn't create an equal playing field. Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and all those tech giant billionaires are pushing for higher minimum wages, why? Because they know that they have enough wealth that they can afford it but their competition can't, those just starting out can't. So by demanding government intervention they can shape the playing field so that only they benefit from it. They all got to where they where using capitalism, this is undeniable, yet now they demand we get rid of specifically because capitalism allows people to move up and potentially dethrone those who are wealthy and powerful, socialism/communism on the other hand ensures that only those in power now, continue to have power which is why its always failed every single time its been implemented without a single exception.

The problem with communism is that the fantasy communism that is described in the definition of it DOES NOT AND HAS NEVER EXISTED.

It's kind of like describing a place with rainbows and unicorns and asking why that wouldn't be a great place to live. IT DOESN'T EXIST.

Every place in the world throughout history where communism has been tried, you end up with a tiny corrupt rich ruling class of people, and an underclass of oppressed poor people who are under authoritarian rule, have no rights, and struggle just to live their daily lives. It always starts out with corrupt politicians promising the people a utopia if they will only give up their power and grant it to them. It goes from there to authoritarian rule when the government turns on its own people and makes them captives.

And PS the same is true of socialism. Socialism is communism without a gun. If you want to talk about the real world, then no, equality of wealth is NOT a desirable goal. If you aim for that goal then you might achieve it. But it will mean everyone is equally poor. The goal to aim for is equality of OPPORTUNITY. Equality of wealth is tyranny because it cannot happen without forced government violation of private property and other human rights. It doesn't have a good track record historically. I'm sure even many Marxists will agree with me here. That is my first and most fundamental objection. Regardless of who they are, every human desrves the basic rights, food, water, shelter, clothes.
But beyond that, is about what a person makes of their life.

For example, one of my uncle's flunked his medical exam cause he wasn't serious was wasting his time a lot. He got determined and worked his ass off and is now of the leading ENT surgeons in the state and is wealthy, and he deserves every penny he has cause he earned it with his own sweat, tears and blood. That wouldn't have happened in communism cause it would have supressed him to be at the level of others, irrespective of how much work be put in.
I gotta be honest, I'm not very knowledgeable in how communism and capitalism works so my opinion is purely based off my experience.

I see there's already a lot of opinions here, so I'll just summarize my biggest two issues; although, it's obviously a very complex issue:

1) Any form of state compulsion is immoral by my standards. I do not believe that it is ever ok for someone who is not hurting anybody to be forced against their will to live by others' standards.

2) History, including current events, proves that people with massive power cannot be trusted. I think that goes both for big corporations and big governments. The key difference, though, is that we have at least some ability to choose to boycott and leave businesses, but we cannot choose to boycott the government on threat of violence.

There's two major drawbacks, communism has never worked before, because there's always been someone in power that decides who gets what.
Secondly, if everyone gets paid the same, why would anyone put in effort? If people are paid depending on effort, who decides what is what amount of effort? People that can be corrupted, back to point one.
