It’s only offensive when it’s said in English not in Spanish
I don’t think it does fit the bill.
Why?What word should we use?If the culture is not your own, what adjective and noun would you use? When referring to extraterrestrial life forms, what do we use?
Imagine you being entitled an alien? I read that the world alien was looked up as an enemy and to be treated as a criminal or outlaw.
So rather than alien culture which means you do not understand it.You suggest foreign culture which would cover both cultures you understand and those you do notThat’s not going to be confusing at all
Why does it fit the bill? Tell me
@Aimee_ you are over thinking the meaning of the word, Alien does not mean enemy unless it is used in a sentence to describe that. It simply means something or someone not of your country or culture and you do not understand them or culture.Foreign and alien can be interchangeable, however foreign usually means you understand some of the culture etc.For example France is full of foreign people but not aliens, as they belong to France, but are foreign to anyone in the UK etc
I know alien means a foreigner , basically. That it’s not the point of my question. I’ve read that it’s dehumanizing the word alien. But you haven’t told me yet if any other word fits the bill?
There is not, Alien works, it’s a blanket word.
Only to Italians
That makes no sense how do you not know and proceed to say it’s not offensive?
Because I don't know if its meant to be or not but its not.
