I think the very format of debate lends itself to abusive strategies that can make you win the debate without being factually right about anything you said. Of course, opinions are subjective but not all facts are.
I mean simply cause of the time constrains that can't be avoided, cause nobody has time forever.
dude having lost friends over things that i still think i am right about, i don't even know how i could see being "wrong" as inconsequential. guess you could say those friends were necessary to sift out. still not "inconsequential" in my experience.
Having different opinions and preferences is a fact of life. Those who cannot embrace that aren't ready to relate with me.
Yeah. Guess that's still not inconsequential :D but the consequences are better to be accepted.
Since I'm loosely attached to my opinions, anyone getting too offended by them can only be a bigot.
that's exactly what this question about. cause some people will continue arguing a lost point till their death before they admit that they were wrong. so clearly some people don't give much of a crap about truth.
Yep, that usually happens with people that invest too much of themselves on the ideals they have, or the ideals that were indoctrinated into them.I was raised differently to that, so I rather see the truths (and also "other truths") as entities of their own, and not as an ideal that originates within me.
i was also raised differently, but i found out, that psychologically, some people will be unable to "allow" the realization that what they think is wrong, if it's a question about life and death. if you manage to scare someone, a majority of people will not be able to let go of that thought no matter how much contradiction to that thought the experience.that's why christianity is still a thing. and that's why we're so scared of covid to the point where we allow the government to violate the constitution.
You think that you have a good chance of people welcoming your opinion, when you condescend to them like that? Your communication is terribly ineffective. Have you not learned to talk to people properly yet? About time at age 43, don't you think? Well it's never too late to get schooled. I created 2 different arbitrary examples for you to choose from. Nowhere did i claim that this is a dichotomy. You can win an argument and also pursue truth or you can lose an argument doing that. But that wasn't what I'm interested in, which of course you knew. If you don't wanna answer my question then what's the point of your commenting besides pointless antagonization based on strawman arguments? Do i even need to let you speaky when I already know the answer?
the point of this question is to know: will you concede and lose a debate, when you percieve the opposition to be closer to the truth than you are? or will you continue trying to win the argument knowing that you're wrong.
If I know I’m wrong then I’m not going to pursue it just to win
:) if most people were like that, we wouldn't have most of the problems in the world that we have.
@genericname85 you are correct. I take the time to ask myself why a reasonable rational person would say those things, put myself in their shoes. It’s often enlightening. I find it behoves me to give people the benefit of the doubt.
doubt is never a bad thing. only quacks and delusional people will tell you that you should not doubt. because "you not doubting" is tool they use to fool you with.
Hmmm. K. But what I mean is I figure they have a rational argument until they prove to me otherwise.
well if their arguments start with "this can not be questioned..." or "you should not question...", they are wrong by default.
That is a very poor way to start a healthy debate.
Not necessarily. There's still blatant lies and demonstrable falsehoods that are still widely accepted as truth and have been for thousands of years.
And in defense of those falsehoods, people use abusive debating strategies like the gish Galopp for example.
biden and truth xD i would litterally be rolling on the floor laughing, if i wasn't in a public place right now :D that guy is "at least" as much of a dirty, corrupted liar as trump is.
plus he is in fact an actual racist unlike trump.
look i'm not shitting on being a democrat or a republican. all valid. but trump and biden... in politics, there is no truth.
I lifted this from one of Biden's blooper reels. He actually says "I prefer truth over fact"
oh sorry. when he said that, it must be true :D
Well you can win without speaking the truth xD so that's not by default the case.
I think a lot did lie actually
lol. so you don't care if someone is telling the truth, you still wanna win the debate being wrong? xD
cool that you're being honest about that.
I'm usually honest unless I forget something, if I can not be I just won't comment
i didn't want to imply that you're usually not honest xD i wanted to imply that "most people" aren't.
