where do you take the trash though? i don't have any dumps nearby and i hear it can cost a lot to just have a truck take it or something.
You don’t have a local landfill? Umm.. maybe call your city and ask about programs and maybe discounts for taking city trash all the way to nearest dump or if they have other ideas or options as you are farther from them. It’s $80 for a flatbed truck load of trash taken to my local dump. (As example) If you know people there, such as the local area gardeners, they can offload their workload scraps for $40 flatbed load. I’m thinking it would be something like that.
does that cost money to adopt a highway?
I just had to reimburse the city for the cost of making and attaching the sign that reads we adopted that stretch to an existing sign post. It was a one-time payment of $210. Pretty cheap advertising, and we actually get out and do it. It's usually picking up trash the wind has blown in from elsewhere. The families a lot of time pay their kids to help out.
how soon does it get trashed again after doing it?
Fortunately it doesn't happen to that stretch very often. Usually after a storm with high winds. In the Spring it's like playing Whack A Mole lol.
yeah i might go for it but i worry it might be futile if it constantly gets trashed soon after cleaning it lol. i'd think about it.
also another question where do you take the garbage to dispose of it? i don't have any dumps nearby and i heard it can cost money
We try to time it for "free Saturday" (the first Saturday of every month) when we can take it to the landfill where they set up huge collection dumpsters to use without charge. If not, then we bring it back and use one of our dumpsters. It ends up being 4-6 large garbage bags most times.

$400 is a LOT to earn just from collecting cans. I’m sure that was very rewarding.
@Flower7 i did it in my neighborhood, then there were 2 trailer parks i would go to plus near the highways. And I also cut grass for people for $15 each for townhomes, $21 for end town homes, $30 for single family homes. I miss those days. I was very optimistic about my future back then. What happened? XD
@Flower7 dad was nice about it. as long as i changed the oil and filled the gas he paid for it and any supplies i needed. dad himself started working as a farm hand at 8 years old. So it was just something expected of me.
lock them up? wow

Well, it does. But we share the costs with building management. Normally it is a scheduled pickup. So I am going to schedule something over the next several weekends. We can get rid of some old equipment, benefit others, and clean up all at the same time.
A small thing can make a huge impact. Just one group I follow as example.https://www.ocnamibia.org/
