Has your home ever been broken into?

- Well, not broken into, the back door was unlocked and someone walked in. My mom and stepdad were having sex and they both heard the back door open. Their then 2-year-old daughter was in the living room, asleep. After the stepdad ran the person who walked in the house out to the front door and fired his gun, he went right back to his wife to continue their business. I didn't like how they just continued to have sex after someone walked inside the house like that, with their toddler asleep in the living room.
We were living in an apartment when someone tried to shoot up our neighbor's apartment and a bullet came in through the window in the living room. My mom was sitting right there along with her toddler. When I, having my headphones on, listening to music, heard a loud bang, walked out of my room, I saw that they were just about to eat dinner, but it was interrupted by something. My little sister had dropped her plate on the floor and went to the ground. She was really late in doing that. We had to stay at a motel for a few days because of that incident. The apartment had crime scene tape wrapped around it. This happened months before we moved into our new home. In our new home was when someone had just walked in from the back door.Is this still revelant?@Levin Why Iraq? If anything, Japan is the safest, though their suicide rates are pretty high.

- People have tried, however my exterior and doors / locks have prevented them.
over in the UK it’s pretty much always for stealing a car, they lock snap, sneak in and out with the keys.
I just leave my keys out on the kitchen in easy sight, if they want them bad enough to get past the doors, they can have them.
As long as you have defence in depth, then you make your house less appealing and they move along to next doors easier target. Is this still revelant?@Flower7 yes 100%, I wonder at times how these people get access to peoples homes at times.

@Flower7 no problem, the idea is to reduce the risks, to make a pain to try and get in.
External lights, cameras and alarms reduce the risk by being a visual deterrent, doors and locks etc are a physical one.Lighting is a good idea. And pretty too, as an added bonus. I love when people have a line of lights going down each side of their walkway.
@Flower7 as someone from Newcastle I am very aquatinted with house security…
@DonkeyDan I think only Scousers are better@ChrisMaster69
If Scousers can't get into a house they just nick the whole house lol
What am I taking about, there's no Scouser that hasn't been able to break into a house 🤣@DonkeyDan I have a few of these on the drive way to the house.

- Yes while I was asleep, Crim left in a trail of blood, the dog took a chunk out of an ankle, while I got a piece of scalp courtesy of a hockey stick. Police found the guy a couple of hours later at the local A&E.Is this still revelant?
I’m very glad that he was caught!
He got roughed up quite a bit. People must not understand how dangerous it is to break into people’s houses. They never know what they’re going to walk into!Nope, he did not get roughed up enough, if I'd have clicked hold of him before he got out the front door, he'd have had more than a chewed ankle and a split scalp to deal with, I'm old school and believe that if you break in to someone’s home you deserve everything you get.
If this happened today with the same scenario, I would have been charged with 'Assault occasioning actual bodily harm' and the dog would have been euthanized.
The PC culture has a lot to answer for as far as Law and Order is concerned.

2232- They stole my 10 year old son's VCR and his 5" tv that he lived so much. He made signs and put arrows on them and put them all the way to the front door to show them the way out! That house was burglarized so many times. They kept stealing the computer s. He would buy a new one, it got stolen, he'd but a new one, it would get stolen and so on. My apartment manager used to break in when I was at work and take food from my kitchen. Like a big slab of country ribs that were supposed to be for a dinner for some friends. Stole my bacon, jam, anything he wanted. What a jerk!React

- While I was at work one evening, I had somebody break into the house I was renting at the time and steal a bunch of expensive jewelry, clothes, blu rays, a laptop, and a PS4 from me. I had to file a police report and some of my stuff was recovered from various pawn shops in the Phoenix area. Most of the clothes and some of the jewelry that was stolen from me were never recovered.
They did arrest the guy, it was some middle-aged methhead who had also robbed two other houses in the same area the next night.ReactLike

- Yes but nothing of mine was stolen at least nothing of value, since I dont miss anything. I have upgraded with window locks after the incident. I also got a alarm system that just send a alarm to me. I don't pay a alarm firm, that like being robed every year in costs. It would be cheaper to take the chances with the criminals.React

I didn’t know there were cheaper options for alarm systems, that don’t involve alerting the company. That’s a good thing to think about.
Yes it's just the equipment, the installation and keeping them with batteries. Beyond that you need internet and an app on your phone. If the alarm is triggered you will be notified. You decide what you do from there. Ie you could connect to a camera in your home to check before alerting the police. Or call a neighbor and have them check.
- I live in the US, in a state that allows gun ownership. The wife and I carry pretty much everywhere, and have a fingerprint safe on each side of our bed. On top of this, we have multiple dogs. The smallest one is a Yorkie Poodle mix that is a great alarm system.React

- Yeah, when me and my mom was in Spain. My dad brought some slut over, and then I guess they came back later after he left for work. It didn't look like they actually got in, but my dad's laptop and mon's perfume were missing, so the slut must've taken it before.

- No. But I've accidentally broken into my next door neighbors house after working too many hours and getting too little sleep. I had just moved into that house and they all look exactly the same on the outside.
In my defense, they should've locked the door.ReactLike

- We have an alarm security system. One time someone broke the back door open and entered. The alarm went off and the crook left. At least that's what we think because when we got home we could see the broke door that he/she entered but nothing was stolen or out of place.React

- No fortunately. I live in a pretty nice middle class area and there are always cars in the driveway and people home. There is a place I’m looking at moving to which is pretty rural. The chances are probably less likely someone would, but more likely if they did they would be more aggressive and balsy since the houses are so far apart. It’s definitely a concern of mine.React

Wow, could his list of crimes be any longer lol. He was doing about 5 of them, all at the same time! Trespassing counts too!
The worst part is I saw the accident, and they wanted me to testify... like uh no, I don't want to. They almost made me, but he took a plea deal before that came to be.
I didn't want to miss any work and lose pay, I had no issue with a written statement. If they wanted to pay me my wages, I'd have happily testified.
- When I lived with my mother, my brother and I bought her a new TV for Christmas. We put the empty box out for the trash guy to pick up. A couple of days later somebody broke int oher house and only the TV was taken.React

Very good to know. Trash from expensive things is definitely something to be careful about.
- And they better hope they never do, especially if I'm at home. They will end up extra orifices. I also have a 140 lb South African Mastiff in the houseReact

- No, but there was one time, many years ago, when my mom noticed that our kitchen window was slightly broken off of the track and the side that you're supposed to slide open was dented in. She assumed that someone tried to break in, but I don't really know.React
