Probably not. Ukraine and Russia aren’t even all that different. They’re both Slavic, and their languages are so similar that it’s almost like comparing Spanish with Portuguese. I know the Soviets in the 60s tried to ‘Russianise’ Ukraine, along with all the other non-Russian regions in the Soviet Union, by settling Russian families in these areas. These Russian minorities then wielded absolute power over their non-Russian neighbors for decades. When these countries finally gained independence from Soviet collapse, the Russian minorities started screaming about oppression. Of course, Putin is happy to ride to the rescue. That’s how this crap with Ukraine got started.
Personally, I think Ukraine should just relocate all their Russians into their eastern region, break off that region and give it to the Russians, and then just say ‘To hell with those Russians forever!’

Absolutely not. The US promised Russia that it wouldn’t expand NATO after the USSR fell. It broke that promise. It also caused the overthrow of the pro-Russian president just weeks before election day and installed a puppet government. Now the Ukraine is a giant grift for many American politicians, whose children get lucrative board of director positions there. Hunter Biden isn’t the only one. This is why the politicians are so outraged by the potential invasion. If the DC elites want to defend the grift, let them send their own children to fight. Leave American soldiers out of this.
Of course it is. But what business is that of mine as an American? The question is whether we need to sacrifice American men and women to perpetuate a grift for US politicians, their kids, and connections.

This is one war we SHOULD fight. Today it is a Ukraine/Russia problem. Tomorrow it will be a World problem. Putin is like a bully. He will attack whoever he can to get his way. If Putin attacks and NATO and the U. S. do nothing, Russia will see that as permission to do whatever. Even if Europe could handle Russia alone, the U. S. sitting this one out would reduce our standing in the world, make us look weak and set up a potential China/Russia/North Korea alliance. Even if the rest of the world took the side of the U. S., those 3 nations alone hold a significant portion of the world's nukes and population. Such a conflict would result in nuclear winter, meaning the extinction of humanity. Yes, much of this may sound far-fetched, but considering how stupid the Chinese and Russian governments are, it really is not so far-fetched.
Funny that budget only comes up when discussing welfare expansion…

Honestly I’m not sure, There known as the middle lands and like Vietnam they have been taken over time and time again, Even Poland one of the most taken over countries in the war took Ukraine over. 1 November 1918 – 18 July 1919 So I’m not sure, It’s unfortunate that joe Biden is such a failed president that we’re even having to consider this. Of course when ever a Democratic is in office since the beginning of the 20th century war gets declared.
WW1 Wilson democratic Ww2 FDR democratic korea Truman Democratic Vietnam LBJ Democratic gulf war was republicans but the bushes are pretty much Democratic and they call Republican war hawks
Who are "we"? Anyway, I'm quite sure that Ukraine will be able to defend itself. It's never mentioned in the mainstream press, but Ukraine is a very large nation (bigger than France) with a large population (41 million), and for Vlad Putin to succeed in swallowing it all up would require far more than the measly 120,000 or so troops he currently has nearby. If there is a war, my guess is that his objective would be to seize land where Russian-speakers are the clear majority in the far East of the country. Taking the whole of Ukraine simply wouldn't be possible.

Ukraine got a signed commitment in 1994 by us to protect them in exchange for them destroying their nuclear stockpile after the fall of the USSR. Whether we should keep to the agreement is a complex question. If we don't, then our promise of protection means nothing and you can expect other protected nations like Taiwan, Japan, and North Korea to ramp up their own war machines, which will put us on course for another World War.

I bought into the whole war on terror and patriot act crap when I was younger. After decades of seeing how broken never ending wars have made our troops and how rich it’s made our corporations, politicians and news media, I’m pretty against foreign intervention and being the worlds police. We should focus on defending ourselves at our borders and let the rest of the world take care of themselves.

The media is overplaying this for shock effect. The US is not considering sending troops to Ukraine. Rather, the troops may be sent to the NATO border with Ukraine, to act as a deterrent to Russia. The US does have an obligation to NATO, and even though Ukraine is not part of NATO, a Russian takeover of Ukraine would be a security threat to NATO countries
Personally, I think this situation will be defused politically with no shots fired. Ukraine will remain a neutral buffer between Russia and NATO, and will not join NATO.

I get the idea of slowing the expansion of opposing powers or those hostile to people's personal liberties. But I would think any support should be more of a supply effort from us and any actual troops should come from Europe.
I say this because nearly every time we try to involve ourselves in foreign drama in an attempt to "liberate" people or especially "protect our interests abroad", it tends to go to shit quick.

No, one thing that 911 and Vietnam should have shown everyone is that we shouldn't stick our nose in conflicts that don't directly involve us and us attempting to police the world will force us to pay a very high cost. If anything it's time for the other NATO nations to take the lead and fight to their interest. Instead of us taking the lead, paying the highest price and while a chunk of them simply play cheerleader when we are doing the vast majority if the heavy lifting.

I don't know much but didn't USA sign a deal to protect Ukraine? Therefore if they do not it would just be another shitty thing there army didn't do onto their long list. If you sign a deal keep to it even if it means WW3 for all I care word means everything.
@EIChapo Not quite there yet, but certainly heading that way. Too many legislators see their job as building personal wealth and raising money from big donors for their re-election instead of helping the people who elected them.

This wouldn't even be a question if President Obama (from February 2014 to January 2017) or President Trump (from January 2017 to December 2019*) had told Putin to get out of Crimea after his special Diet Soviet Union forces annexed it from Ukraine in February 2014.
*I put December 2019 because after that, the world was focused on the pandemic.

America is not the worlds police - they only get involved to protect their financial interests, and there are none in Ukraine. Also, Ukraine doesn't want Americas help. Also Biden didn't say jack shit about going to war - honestly, the right-wing "news" media needs to cop the fuck on and stop pretending to worry about things that aren't a real issue. Going to war... for fuck sake...

As my old late grandfather used to say: "You know its going to involve violence, when Americans get involved. But you know it's going to be a fuckup when they claim to be on the "right" side". Its like the devil claiming to be good.
Why do you think the EU would be next? Most EU countries are also NATO countries, so if Putin wanted Poland (for example) that would automatically mean a war with France, Britain and the U. S.
Germany is already buckling. They suck up so much Russian oil they are addicted.
It's not just a simple war.
Once Russia got it's momentum, the other countries that are on the fence will be like "maybe this Warsaw pack 2.0 isn't looking so bad." and you have another pack that rivals NATO plus the EU depends on Russia for oil.

At this point. no.
But we had better pull together this world community to enact the most severe sanctions against Russia.
This has repercussions for everyone on this planet.
Sanctions means the rest of the world does, too. It basically will raise prices immensely.

Hell no.
Give them weapons and arms if we believe in their cause but this is THEIR country. Not one U. S. citizen should die for this crap.

The media is overplaying this to take our attention away from our internal problems and to popularize that "thing that conquered the White House" by pretending that it can do anything important. I really think that Putin is way smarter than most of the involved. And yes, I am the Russian speaking person from Ukraine.

Not one drop of American Blood for these Europeans that can't manage their own affairs, as they sit back and call themselves superior. I am worried about Taiwan. That is where the computer chips come from.

This administration should be defending US borders rather than everyone else's. Instead, it encourages illegal entry, i. e., invasion of the US.
LOL, it’s a valid criticism of this criminal gang in Washington. The Biden Administration is breaking the law with its illegal human trafficking, secret illegal flights, and willfully refusing to protect the border. Why are you trying to distract from that criminality (which should result in criminal convictions)?
