Unless you run regularly, I wouldn't recommend it. Get used to running 5km races first, then 10km races, then 20km races. When you can run a 20km race in under 3 hours, then you can start safely training for a marathon.If you're really 56, you gotta remember - Marathons kill people every year. People younger and probably fitter than you.
