Nah man, when it comes to laptops (and a lot of desktops), the system integrator actually designs the mainboard and a variety of subsystems attached to it. If your components aren't integrated well, the entire thing is going to suck regardless of the quality of the individual components.
@HungLikeAHorsefly That's not a contradiction. I have opened numerous of my laptops (in a variety of 'brands') An 'acer' i. e. is not made entirely of 'acer' parts. And seriously: if one product delivers a result a fraction of a second earlier... that is NOT a better product, because I won't even notice.I was through a number of different 'brands' - they all did satisfyingly what I expected them to do.
Oh no doubt they all behave similarly. Performance isn't what I'm talking about - it's stability and how well integrated the components are. Some companies do better than others. Although I agree most of the major brands are very similar in terms of quality, along these metrics. Most of the time, the mainboard and drive backplane will be manufactured by the company who branded the laptop. Other components are made by other companies but getting them all to work together properly isn't always 100% successful.
