I think the wheel was a big one, that has just an absurd amount of applications.

What we really need discovered or invented is a consistent source of renewable energy. If we do that it'll solve a lot of the world's problems, not to mention the problems we will definitely face in the future as resources run out.

The Internet both as burden and curse. Information unlimited and unregulated worldwide. Never in History had every single single person faster access to more knowledge and information than today.
But also having more and faster access to more bullshit and nonsense.

Off the top of my head, I'd probably say mathematics, but at thisexact moment, I'm thinking "functional space bars". Which reminds me that language is also a good choice. And reliable methods for starting a fire. The advantages that gave us were pretty damn huge.

Writing has to be it. Without that, we would not have been able to pass down anywhere near the same amount of information.

Fire, probably. A great world-changing invention (forgive the pun) would be a means of terraforming alien worlds. Something to make Mars habitable, so mankind can spread beyond this tiny, dying place.
