If I write to a stranger by telegram, can he know my phone number or just my username?

There is a stranger who offers me a job and told me that he would write to his telegram.

He told me that it was not bad at all, but I still have doubts and I don't know how real what they tell me is.

so i ask for the number in case i end up being harassed or something, so i can get rid of the stranger easily and they are not harassing me, because i asked the stranger what the requirements were for the job and he said he is just going to tell me if we talk by telegram
