Every quarantine is like a sieve, it slows the flow but it’s constantly leaking through. It’s only a matter of time until it’s in a neighborhood/train station/airport/subway/bus near you if it isn’t already… We’ve seen cases of people being asymptomatic up to 27 or 28 days now yet still contagious. So someone can be asymptomatic for close to a month and infect everyone around them, then end up isolated and hospitalized potentially progressing to an ICU (26.1% of the time) after an average of 8 days. Then they have to ride out the illness for about 3 weeks and hope they don’t die (about 10% of the time). If they make it that far they are potentially contagious for an additional 2 weeks after they have recovered… It’s a long ride that could kill you but at the very least could put you out of work for 2 months.
The same sort of rapid spread is happening everywhere. The Financial Times recently reported “160 confirmed cases were detected in more than 16 different prefectures and in numerous cases the source of the infection was not clear” in regards to Japan. There is wide scale community outbreak and patient zero is not known. The same is true in Italy where it’s jumping from city to city without a known patient zero and even from country to country within the EU. For an example a Romanian traveling from Italy by bus arrived home showing symptoms yesterday even with the quarantine in effect. So for example if you live in the USA and travel somewhere in the north east for business for a couple of days and you get word that NYC goes into full lock down blocking the bridges and tunnels. Within a day or two it would have already spread to 7 surrounding states affecting major cities like Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Bridgeport, Providence, Worcester, Wilmington, etc. So if you are traveling anywhere you’re rolling the dice.
So by this afternoon it has spread all the way south to Sicily and north to Venice within Italy. It’s branched out from Italy into the EU infecting citizens of Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, more cases have arisen in Span, See how fast this thing moves in democratic nations with freedom of travel? As Dr. Bruce Aylward put it, prepare as if it will be here tommarow. Nancy Mmessonnier from the CDC has also stated that Americans should prepare now. Don’t travel…
