Can you recommend Singapore?

- Yes! I've been there many times one of the most beautiful countries I've had the chance to visit and it amazes me every time. The whole country looks like a garden, super clean, safe, expensive but so worth it. I'm sure you're gonna love it and adapt easily there are lots of different cultures and good food. Enjoy and have fun.1|00|0Is this still revelant?
Thank you, sounds good :)
Any specific recommendations for food?
And do you have any idea how university life is over there?I'm not sure because I never studied there but I guess it's a multi-cultural environment you'll find lots of foreign students and maybe even some students from the same nationality as you. You should try the chilli pepper crab it's delicious. Their cuisine it's a mix of chinese and indian lots of spicies and lots of flavor. Street food is amazing too.
Lots of foreign students sounds good, the food too :)
Do you know anyone who studied there?- Show All Show Less
Oh, how cool :)
Actually there is something I'd like to know. Somewhere on this forum I read that in universities in Singapore they have some strange traditions like you have to participate in photo shoots where you have to be barefoot and so on. Honestly, it seemed bs to me, but if there is any way to find out if this is true or not it would certainly help to put my mind to ease :DNever heard about those photoshoots but in Singapore they have this tradition to leave the shoes outside and walk barefoot inside it's a bit offensive for them if you don't do it. My ex had to remind me to remove my shoes a few times before entering his house and before I got used to it.
Mmh, for me it is normal to remove shoes before entering someone's house. I don't see this as something specifically Asian. But this is just about shoes, not socks, right?
Maybe, in case you are still on good terms with your ex, could you ask him if there is a tradition like that at Singaporean universities? :)It's okay to wear socks. I can text him tomorrow now it's a bit late where he lives and I'll get back to you. If you don't mind I'll send you a follow request and I'll send you a PM.
@sheikalana That's strange, I didn't get any private message...
Maybe it is because I am only level 1?
Could you send it again or post it here?Is there another messages box? How can I access it?
I checked "messages" but there is nothing. In your messages you should be able to check 'Other messages' anyways he said he never her about that tradition and is all bs lol.

- Well if you're going to study there you'll soon find out what everything is about and make the decision for yourself what best suits you. You may just hate it who knows.0|00|0Is this still revelant?
Yes, sure, I just wanted to learn more about it before going there. So have you been there or studied there yourself?
Nope. But I suggest you read up on the place your going. Learn where to go and where not to go. Look up places you'd like to go things you'd like to eat and try out.

- I did not like it there: too many regulations and ''hi-so hoo hah''.
I also found Singaporeans to be quite stiff and 'correct'.
However - if you're fond of expensive city-life and absolutely no adventures each single day... then you may like it there.1|00|0Is this still revelant?yeah I see. Doesn't really sound like my thing but I'm sure not everyone will be like that.
Did you have any contact with one of the universities there?
- Basically yes, It is like hongkong and China
It is expensive in singapore but it is cheap in malaysia
so you just need cross that line. you know hell and heaven1|00|0Is this still revelant?

12- I have only taken a stop over for a few days but I loved it there, but as every one know holiday and work/study is totally different1|00|0
Yeah, sure. So you haven't had any contact with the university or people who studied there, right?
- Anonymous5 dIt's a really expensive country unless you have a good scholarship if you plan to go a university there.0|00|0
Yeah, fortunately I do, couldn't afford it otherwise. But I won't have much money left for food, traveling etc.
So have you studied there yourself and know the university system? That's great!
Actually I heard some weird stuff about universities there. I heard for example that it's not allowed to kiss in public. And about some group photo shoots at universities where the girls have to take off their shoes and socks. Can you confirm any of that?- Show All Show Less
Haha what do you mean by classified information? :D
No seriously, if there is any truth to that I would like to know. You can also write me a personal message if you prefer :)I still don't understand what you mean. So why is the answer to my question a secret? Why do people who studied there deny it? So does that mean that those photo shoots exist after all?
Please help me with this, I really want to know this.
And again, if you prefer not to talk about this openly for some reason, please send me a message. You mean high schools or universities as well?
But I guess I won't have to participate in those traditions as I'm just an exchange student, right?
I would like to know because the thought of having to be photographed with bare feet kind of terrifies me haha. So I'd like someone to confirm that I won't have to do this.
Because I really hate showing my bare feet to anyone. I feel so uncomfortable doing this.
So can you please give me as much information about this as possible? I really want to know now.
So will I HAVE to participate in those photo shoots or is this optional?
Will I have to take off only my shoes or my socks as well?
How will they photograph us? Will our feet be visible in the pictures?
Why do we have to do this?
Is it only for girls or for everyone?I will definitely go to Singapore, so it's too late for that.
But can you please answer to my questions? I really want to know about this. Please help me.
Why do you say I shouldn't go to Singapore? Why do you think I will have to spend a lot of time barefoot?
And no, you didn't really answer my questions. So let me ask again: Do only girls have to be barefoot during those photo shoots or guys too?
When you say "barefoot", do you mean only shoes off or completely bare feet without socks either?
And can you tell me anything about the reasons for this tradition?Wow this is so strange...
So have you participated in photo shoots like that? Who told the girls to take off their shoes and socks? Is this a rule set by the university? And did some of the girls try to keep their socks but they were made to take them off?Ok, so anyways I will tell them that I don't like to show my feet, so I will hide them in the photos, so it won't bother if I'm wearing socks as they won't be visible. :)

These are traditions not written rules but they're really strict about them. Yes I attended on those photo shots but I'm not a girl. They just show up barefoot, so even if one of them tried to keep her socks then she hasn't been so successful 😂 You should really ask the girls about it not me, but I doubt that you can find one to answer lol.
Until now I haven't found any girl who confirmed this story. Actually you're the first person to do so, which is why I'm really happy to have found you. :)
Do you still have contact with some girls from your university? I would really like to ask them.
And do you think I'll be able to just hide my feet from the camera? I don't want them visible in those photos. There was some guy who told me this in another forum. I thought it was all bs though, so I decided to ask again here.
Why do you think they won't talk to me about this? Maybe if you tell them how this is for me and that I want to know more about this? You can send them my e-mail address, I don't want to talk on the phone or anything like that.
And why is it impossible to hide my feet during the photo shoot? I guess it will be a big group, so I could just stand in the back, right?Thank you, you would be really helping me!
Ok, so the girls are in front of the boys, but maybe if we are sitting, I can just sit on my feet, right?
And individual shots will be full-body including feet as well?
Yeah, if we're standing up it will be difficult to hide my feet, that's true. So I hope we'll be sitting, so I can hide them underneath my body.
Anyway, what's the purpose of those pictures anyway? Will they be published somewhere? Who will get them?Hey. Have you seen my last post? :)
And did you manage to ask some of your friends from university?
- Spent a few days there last January its awesome0|00|0
