I love having to decide what way is the best way to take. Plus there's less people around, and the terrain is more challenging.

Yes, I'm in Ireland and here only a few of the main tourist destinations have paths. You know that where there's no paths, you don't get casual tourists, families, or teenagers drinking, only those who really like hiking. I love it!
i mean there's lots of black sheep even in those that like hiking as well. people that leave their trash lying around for example is a very common theme. like even in areas with no paths, when you find a really pretty venue, chances are, it's littered and the plant life around the area quite wrecked.
i like Ireland a lot, cause "wild camping" is actually not only condoned but viewed positively there (at least that's what i gathered when i informed myself for a mix of hitchhiking and hiking in Europe. in most other countries, it's straight up illegal or massively frowned upon socially.
Oh yes, you just get less people littering, but still some. Although I must say, not so much in Ireland thankfully.
And yes, wild camping is legal here. It's just recommended that you ask permission first or get info if the landowner doesn't mind you there if it's not a national park. Otherwise you might wake up with an angry farmer holding a shotgun 😂
are shotguns easily obtainable in Ireland? xD i mean i'm ok with angry people. i had some of that in my hitchhiking experiece. that's ok. just say sorry and get lost. that's my strategy to deal with that and it never failed me :D
