"he'd be doing whatever he could to stop it" - he is doing what he can. He's flying around on jets, going to conferences and telling us to conserve. That's what he can do.
@LindsayRB91rds So are you saying that so long as he's doing that and encouraging other people to live green, that he is excused from doing so himself? The things you've mentioned like going to conferences and telling people to conserve, and selling books etc, and etc... all of that earns him money. Everyone does what they can to earn money. There's plenty more he could be doing. He tells US to conserve and yet he owns multiple multi-million dollar mansions all consuming tons of energy? He could be donating money he gets from those conferences and book sales to research efforts, living in a small house with the same comparative efficiency of the ones he has now. He's promoting a cause... but he's not living as though he believes that cause is worth while. His lifestyle doesn't match the things he says they should be in order to care for the planet.
Sorry - I should have put the tags on I guess. I'm not big on social media convention. :)No, he should be keeping his mouth shut while being so wasteful. He could take a train/bus/coach airplane seat to a conference. Yes, he could be donating some of the money to put up a wind farm. As you said, he could be using his influence to further his cause - if he wanted to.He doesn't have to though. It's his money to use as he pleases. I just hope that when it's used selfishly that way, other people would see the hypocrisy for what it is. @EpicDweeb, you and I agree on this. (Sorry, the coffee at work is still brewing and i haven't had any yet...)
I just realized that GaG ate part of my message. I meant to say I should have put the [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tags on my message. Of course these would be replaced with the standard < and > characters as needed for fake HTML. :)
@LindsayRB91rds Lol sounds good xD
Thanks so much for the MHO! :)
I didn't give it to you
lol well... fair enough xD
Tx for the MHLuv <3
And what's the alternative? Fly commercial or ride a bike and leave himself open like that. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people who would love to silence him and there's not much he could do for his cause dead. I mean sure he could simply stay at home but that would severely limit any outreach opportunities to campaign against global warming. Ever heard of the saying "you have to spend money to make money"? Well that's the situation that Gore's faced with.Oversimplification much?
@Ad_Quid_Orator Telecommute much? I've done business with people in Kuala Lumpur, Boston, and Denver in the last 36 hours, without even having to put clothes on, let alone burn fossil fuels. And are ya gna tell me the Gores NEED that heated pool, and that perpetually illuminated driveway, and all that "security" for someone who needs about as much protection as my dad does?Oh but it's okay... He buys "carbon offset credits". 😂😂Yr username is in Latin. Don't these "carbon offsets" seem oddly familiar to the "indulgences" (AKA get-out-of-Hell-free vouchers) that the Catholic Church used to sell to rich sinners, back in the good ol' days?I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Mr. Gore to forgo at least SOME of his abundant luxuries, in order that he might be ••somewhat•• less than 100% hypocrite. In fact, he could probably make even MORE money pitching teleconferencing systems instead of traveling everywhere -- because, like, that would actually WORK with his message! 😳😳😳
You may have done business deals but the impact was no where near as big as his. We all have things that we don't need that use fossil fuels but that doesn't make everyone who campaigns for a more sustainable future a hypocrite (google the tu quo que debate fallacy because that's what your entire argument is based around). "Oh but it's okay... He buys "carbon offset credits". Yeah because in the real world we recognize that not everyone is perfect so we judge people not by single acts but the sum of their deeds."Don't these "carbon offsets" seem oddly familiar to the "indulgences" (AKA get-out-of-Hell-free vouchers) that the Catholic Church used to sell to rich sinners, back in the good ol' days?"Except there's a huge whole in your case; the money they paid was for a made up entity in the sky while the impacts of climate change are well documented; Bad enough you're basing an argument around one debate fallacy but now you have to sprinkle some #FalseEquivalence on it to ;)
But the crux of his argument isn't just that we should use less energy but use more efficient energy sources, which he has put resources into.http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/al-gores-mansion/
@Ad_Quid_Orator Lmao smh. Pls do notice that the last word of that web address, there, is still... "mansion".Try Googling the house in which Warren Buffett — the world's second or third richest individual — lives (... and has lived, pretty much all his life). It's a nondescript house, in a nondescript block of a nondescript city. Why can't the Gores at least be **that** much in line with their purported philosophy?MANSION.I'm waiting for you to actually come back with some business-related reason why Gore supposedly "needs" a MANSION. Go 'head, let's see how far down this rabbit hole you're willing to go.If I was pitching a vegetarian diet, but I myself ate shit-tons of meat all the time... would you listen to me?I sure fucking hope you wouldn't.The argument is not even about whether anything about AGW is true or false. That's not the point. The point is that anyone who exhorts "followers" to do X, while specifically doing NOT X, shouldn't HAVE any followers. Because duh.
@Ad_Quid_Orator no one cares enough about Gore to kill him... he's a joke.
"If I was pitching a vegetarian diet, but I myself ate shit-tons of meat all the time... would you listen to me?I sure fucking hope you wouldn't."Depends on why you were pitching that diet and what kind of meat you're eating. If you were pitching it for ethical reasons and were eating a shit ton of roadkill or animals without a centralized nervous system it would make no difference whatsoever. Just like the main point of Gore's case isn't against energy per se but the use of fossil fuels to generate it and as stated before he has put efforts into improving sustainability (sometimes you have to look at the derivatives and not just the value). It's just like those people who attack Bernie for having houses and complaining about income inequality. It's not just the wealth you have that's the issue but how it was acquired. And when you base your whole argument off a debate fallacy you've put yourself at the bottom of the rabbit whole from the start.
@Rissyanne yeah obviously -_-www.nobelprize.org/.../
@Ad_Quid_Orator hey if you want to worship that idiot go right ahead
@Ad_Quid_Orator lol ha ha Obama won the nobel peace prize. That doesn't mean anything. I'm the queen of gag. Lol
I don't "worship" him I just don't want people using the Tu Quo Que debate fallacy to try to discredit a legit cause.
@Ad_Quid_Orator he has discredited your "cause"
Yeah, Obama did nothing to earn the prize exceptwww.facebook.com/.../?type=3LOL and people wonder why the staff at Universities are so liberal XD
There is only one thing that would discredit the cause and that's overwhelming scientific evidence that AGW isn't happening and as of now, that's not the case.
And Obama did indeed do something to earn the prize: he did more to undo the damage of the previous (conservative) administration than anyone else.
@Ad_Quid_Orator don't forget... Obamacare which is a big flop. He tripled the national debt. He went around apologizing for the US.. made us look weaker. Campaigned for a criminal. He hates the military hates the police. Brought a terrorist group into the White House... BLM. He let in a ton of immigrants and wanted to let in more.
Obamacare is no where near perfect but it provided available healthcare for millions and he didn't triple the national debt, the financial collapse immediately preceding his presidency did. Apologizing for the US doesn't make it look weaker; it makes it look like it doesn't keep it's head up its ass the whole time. Letting the US get attacked by the most devastating terrorist strike in history makes it look weak and attacking the wrong country (and turning it into a haven for terrorists) makes it look stupid. What makes the US look strong is putting a bullet through the skull of the one responsible for the aforementioned terrorist. What happens when conservatives fight terrorism:stevetilford.com/.../911.jpegWhat happens when Liberals fight terrorism:img13.deviantart.net/.../..._6amcrisis-d3fefiu.jpg
@Ad_Quid_Orator if we extend victim-blaming to the level of entire nations, I. guess that's what we get 🙄
@redeyemindtricks what "victim blaming" are you talking about?
Because I don't blame the "US" for 9/11 or Iraq I blame the administration present at the time.
@Ad_Quid_Orator yeah, I mean... Fuck FDR and his new deal shit, too. Y'know, for just leaving the doors wide open at Pearl Harbor.... ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS.
Yeah except there's one problem with your argument: Japan was a sovereign nation that we weren't at war with prior to Pearl Harbor (I mean the only way he could have prevented it was attack Japan first which would have started the war anyway). Yeah, probably some people knew Japan had plans to attack the US but if every country went around attacking other countries with plans to attack them, the situation in WW2 would be very different (if you don't believe me look up War Plan Red). But we had already been engaging Bin Laden in conflicts before 9/11 and Bush lapsed the efforts Clinton made against the war on terror leading to what happened. You pull a false equivalency again and you're asking me if "I'm serious" LMAO
@Ad_Quid_Orator I'm not the least bit surprised that you don't consider 9/11 an act of war.Not sure how we got to this point, but, I like how you're not only blaming the victim on a truly epic scale, but, in fact, blaming an administration that had been in place for all of... 7 1/2 months.Do you think the wheels of government turn THAT fast?Seven months and change, in yr world, is enough time to roll back the entire 8-year legacy of the previous administration?Dude, it takes the federal government 18-24 months just to complete a routine correspondence audit of our family's tax return. The same government, rolling back an entire national security apparatus in 1/3 of that time? That's about as likely as me finding gold dust in my next menses.
@Ad_Quid_Orator because they are idiots
You can't make this guy understand... he's had to much liberal koolaid
@redeyemindtricks I never said it wasn't an "act of war" I said the war was going on before 9/11, the US public just didn't know about it. But as for your tax audits and how long you have to wait for them; some things change faster than others and in war things can and are changed in a matter of days.@Rissyanne yeah, the people at the Universities who have proven their worth in terms of expanding the knowledge of mankind are "idiots" right -_-Honestly, it never ceased to amaze me how the implications of virtually all the people who are trained in taking an objective evidence based approach to real world problems arriving at the same conclusions is. And it's not just a thing in US Universities, it's like that at all Universities across the world. Yet you can't (or don't want to) comprehend the meaning of this and you accuse me of drinking the liberal cool aid LOL. Yeah, that cool-aid is called reality.
Time and time again I've heard people making claims about University faculty living in a "Bubble"No kidding, that "Bubble" is called REALITY.
@Ad_Quid_Orator Insult me all you want. I am done with this. so go away. I dont want to block you
I didn't "insult" you I explained why your insult towards the nation's faculty was unfounded but if you don't want to discuss this anymore I'm OK with that.
@Ad_Quid_Orator I did find this about a couple of professors...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpm6LlHHIqo
Well I thought you didn't want to discuss this anymore but the operative word in your last comment is "a couple" i. e. no system is fool-proof. Do you know how people get faculty positions at Universities (I'm not insulting you I'm just asking because a lot of people seem to not know)?
However, it should be noted that Universities are hardly the only place that kind of extremist rhetoric has come out of.s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/.../...ican-party.jpg
@Ad_Quid_Orator these professors are teaching the kids
Yeah, and people like the racist in the video should be fired; as should anyone who uses their position of power to advance their own beliefs as opposed to what's in the peer reviewed literature.

Do you not believe in climate change?
I believe that we should use common sense. I don't think it should be a religion like liberals do.
So you do believe or not. It's science and all Gore is doing is pushing out propaganda to divert our time towards renewable resources and the environment. Despite the profit.
Opening up a new perspective to more people or having people question it to research it themselves.
No one gives a shit what he says... he's a idiot.
"No one believes him except crazy ass liberals." And every single country in the world except for Syria.
@JCB314159 so every country loves Gore? I think you are just pissed that that I called out his ass. Do you drive a car?
Gonna assume you don't believe in climate change being influenced by humans. Don't go calling people out saying that they aren't helping the environment/are being hypocritical when they use xxxx. Not everyone can afford a electric car to commute with and they may be lowering their carbon footprint in other ways.
I will call out who I want. Dont whine about the environment when you drive a car. You can afford a bike can't you?
And you sound like a spoiled kid who doesn't know how it is to pay taxes or work.
Lol you don't know a single thing about me. If I was spoiled I would have a car, have more clothes, shoes, etc. Maybe I do know how to write checks , do a 1040 & 1040EZ, calculate deals in real estate, get a loan and WORK... You have decades of life experience and oportunities that I don't have. What have you done that separates you from an average person?
OMG dude... you said your peace now go on. I am sure you are like the man... but I am tired of you. Dont make me block you...
"so every country loves Gore? I think you are just pissed that that I called out his ass. Do you drive a car?"I'll occasionally drive a car, but I don't own one. I do have two bicycles though.
How much does a cafeteria for a school cost?
@goaded I don't know but I bet he could have built two or three school cafeterias with that money
Dude just google it. Omg. Prove me wrong
I just said I wasn't trolling. Also, why would I look up sources for your statements? If you don't know the answers to my questions in reply, just say so. There's no shame in it. It just means I can't answer your question either. He could be a hypocrite, but I don't have enough information to form an opinion.
I posted a video of you don't like it... google it.
I'm not sure why you're so angry, but thanks for pointing out the video. I went right back to reading the original report in the end, and here's my take:1. A hypocrite is someone saying one thing but doing another;2. I note that he's doing a few different things to offset and reduce usage, such as installing solar power, and paying extra on his electricity bills as some sort of investment/usage of renewable energy;3. In spite of his efforts, he's using a whole lot of power.4. His central message is that we need to work together as one people to do what we can to preserve the environment.Based on that, I'd say that he's not so much a hypocrite (he's making an effort to live by the same values he espouses), but he's probably got a lot more to do to bring electricity usage right down.
Dude he has 3 fucking houses... a fleet of cars and he flies around on a private jet. That is just like decaprio doing the same shit.
This is a fact of life when you have held a high political office. You think all those vehicles are in the motorcade just because Gore likes cars?
@WalterBlack And he likes private jets... and has 3 houses.
@WalterBlack A former vice-president only gets Secret Service protection for 6 months after he leaves office. I think all those vehicles are in the motorcade because Al Gore likes to act as if he is important and he doesn't practice what he preaches.
Omg google it. It is all over the news.
And the man uses a fleet of cars... private jet... and owns not 1 but 3 houses. He's a hypocrite
oh, you just slapped that guy with some hard facts xD
@AfrikaKorps are you saying he doesn't own 3 houses?
no I'm saying I agree with you and YOU slapped that guy with some facts xD
@AfrikaKorps oh ok thanks
You were pretty quick to go on the offensive xD
@AfrikaKorps well there are a lot of liberals on here.
A conservative girl? I didn't know they made those anymore. That's hot.
Dude you do know this is 2017? And he has 3 houses.
Correction, it was reported in 2017, and the issue isn't how much electricity it uses but how much fossil fuel.
How much fossil fuel do you think it takes for him to use a private jet?
I forgot.. liberals can do no wrong.
Liberals have done wrong (I've already told you that there are stances the left takes that I don't agree with) because in case you forgot: nobody's perfect. But have you ever heard the saying you have to spend money to make money, well the same is true for fossil fuels. In order to organize events and campaigns you have to fly around. As for why he can't use a public jet, well it might be kinda dangerous for a politician to leave himself exposed like that and he can't exactly do much dead.
No body wants to take the effort to kill Al Gore. He ain't worth it... lol
Yeah, because oil companies have never put human life at stake to keep or increase their prophet margin LOL
The oil companies put a lot of people to work...
Yeah, and those poor workers wouldn't have any economic opportunities without the oil companies. After all solar, nuclear wind and hydroelectric sources of energy take no effort to build and maintain which is why they're all over the place *sarcasm.
Of course when it comes to R&D we need more educated people, but we both know how you feel about that.
Do you drive a car?
When I can't bike to where I need to go I do but quite frankly it's sounds like you're trying to pull the classic tu quo que debate fallacy. www.thecogitoblog.com/.../Tu-Quoque.jpgI don't know if you are but know that it is just that: a FALLACY
*I don't know if you are but if so, know that it is just that: a FALLACY
When you drive aren't you scared you are hurting the environment?
I'm not "scared" I know there's an environmental impact which is why I only drive out of necessity.
Get a bike then.
I already have one, and I usually ride it when I have to go within 20km of where I live.
I think you should sell your car and ride your bike everywhere.
I pretty much bike everywhere but times come where I need to travel a certain distance within a time frame that I cannot cover with my car. But you seem not to understand the environmentalists position: it's not that we should eliminate greenhouse gas emissions altogether; it's that we should cut our greenhouse gas emissions to a level low enough that primary production on Earth can re-assimilate the carbon dioxide released.
*cover with my bicycle.
I think all you liberals should use bikes instead of cars
Like I said, I use bikes instead of a car (no matter how many times assholes honk at me and shout "HEY, GET OFF THE FUCKING ROAD YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!") and only use cars when A) there is too much weight to be hauled on a bike or B) when the distance is to great to cover via a bicycle in the given time frame. And quite frankly everyone should do that.
When I lived in Germany... people walked and rode bikes. There were nice trails. I even belonged to a volksmarching club.
Yeah, and that's what I hope for the US.
If the messenger doesn't practice what he preaches... then yes
OK, but apparently, his house is as energy efficient as is can be without rebuilding it.Also, there are only about 5,000 Americans worth over $100M, so their energy usage is likely to be less important than the 160,000,000 with a net worth of less than $80k, which is why schemes promoting energy efficient lighting (https://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Phase-out_of_incandescent_light_bulbs) are effective.
I figured you would find some way to give him a pass.
Do you think he should live in a cave with no heating? Would you?
So that is the only choices these celebrities have. A mansion or a cave? Does Michael Moore live in a cave? What I am saying is the liberal celebrities like gore decaprio and more scream about climate change and say that we should conserve energy. Then they fly on private jets... have multiple houses... fleets of cars. And tend especially Michael Moore want to act like they are like the people. They live in a bubble. Their elitist bubble.
He's not in power.
If he's not worried about nobody else should be.
nobody is already, there is no law to preserve the energy
Then he needs to stop preaching to people.
he is preaching to do something, but it doesn't work this far
It's doing something... he's getting rich off of it.
You and your links... this was on every news channel. Why do you think snopes is right?
Because they do their research.Notice, by the way, that the original claim is a bit old.
More... From 2009...http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/al-gores-mansion/Ask yourself why this is in the news all of a sudden? The answer is that it's not news but that is propaganda being broadcast again because Al Gore is now releasing a sequel to his earlier 2006 movie "An Inconvenient Truth" called "An Inconvenient Sequel".
How do you know they do their research? The dude owns 3 houses and flies around in a private jet. He also has a fleet of cars taking him everywhere.
The man is a hypocrite
They do their research because that is what they're interested in doing that's the whole point of the site. Believe me they have come to the defense of conservatives just as much as they have to liberals.
Are you denying all the things he does that aren't good for the environment?
yes and nofor instance Al Gore owns a larger home then average so he will consume more electricity to do so. however he also does a lot of work out of his home so that is also his place of business. as such he doesn't have to drive so much on a daily basis like you and I would to go commute to a job so he is releasing less carbon dioxide from automobile exhaust in that sense. also well as house does use more electricity than average he is also paying for green sources of energy which is something that you have the option to do that most people do not.
He is a hypocrite. He needs to get rid of 2 of those houses.
just wondering do you know of any Republicans who have two or more houses like maybe a certain president?
Republicans are bitching about the environment. Do you drive a gas car?
of course I drive a gas car. I can't afford any other kind of car and I have to drive to get to my job. however if I could afford an electric car or if mass transit was available to me which it isn't then I would more likely purchase such a car or use such mass transit
If you truly cared about the environment you wouldn't drive a gas car.
I care about my survival. Nature does not give a rat's ass about politics and, as a heterotroph, I have to eat to survive and, to be able to eat, I need to be able to earn money. Unfortunately, I am not wealthy where I can let my investments generate income from myself so I can just buy food and sit at home, so instead I have to leave my home and earn a living.
Obviously you don't care.
Don't be stupid. It's very unbecoming and you are better than that, I hope.
Dude I am joking.
LOL... Oh, OK! :)
I want you to check out this guy and see what he said to me. www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q2571912-when-should-a-marriage-end
I replied. That guy needs to grow up and join reality.
He uses a fleet of cars and a private jet. I think that is fossil fuels.
Switching existing demand to green power is a terrific goal and we should strive towards that no matter what. It also doesn't hurt to conserve. The less you use, the less you have to make. Even people who put solar panels on their houses. If they use less, perhaps they can sell some of that excess back to the grid. They save even more money, and the power company has to burn a couple fewer pieces of coal to make power to provide for someone else. Conservation is always a win. You'd think that if Al Gore really cared about the environment he'd be trying to conserve. It's not clear that he does.
He must not believes what he is preaching about. He's a moron anyway
Much like the claims of his lack of environmental sensitivity, I have little information to go on with regard to his intelligence or wits. But that also says nothing about the state of environmental science. That's the thing about the process of science - it's about getting at the truth regardless of who promotes it or reads it.It tends to highlight the problem with society these days - people are far too interested in being all tribal and following whatever their favorite leader or celebrity says, rather than having an interest in what is actually true or factual.
If it was a conservative doing this... liberals would be wanting to beat the crap out of him.
Neither side has earned the right to be riteous, both have massive problems facing the truth in their own way. That's why I refuse to side with either for anything that doesn't have a basis in reality. While people scream and make accusations, the opportunists make quick profits at the expense of our future as a species. So as I said - the hypocracy or lack thereof of the speaker, says nothing about the validity of the claim. I'd be saying the same thing if it were trump in that position. or one of the bushes (since they are actual contemporaries). The politics of the speaker also mean nothing with regard to the reality.
Probably. The house uses renewable energy which would include solar (direct sunlight) and wind (caused by the sun warming the atmosphere).
Misread you as asking what it uses for power. D'oh!
He obviously doesn't really believe in global warming. Just like decaprio preaching about the environment then riding around in his private jet.
He doesn't give a shit about the environment
He has 3 houses... and he takes a private jet every where.
finance.yahoo.com/.../...ial-mostly-150208852.html"For transportation, Gore admits to “sometimes” chartering a private jet but he doesn’t own one, claims to be a “regular" on Southwest Airlines (LUV) and flew to NY last week on American Airlines to promote The Climate Reality Project’s 24-hour webcast, The Cost of Carbon. "Every once in a while I charter but I use public transit and commercial airlines,” he says."
@goaded he is still a hypocrite. There is no need to send me links
I like to think of them as little doses of reality. :)
Post your own question if you don't like it. Are you going to deny he's a hypocrite?
Hypocrisy is the nature of the human condition.
It's ok when a liberal is a hypocrite... you'll give him a pass.
He's not though. He's on the grid and gets power from the Tennesee Valley Authority. The current mix of sources say that 40% is nuclear, 26% comes from coal, 22% comes from natural gas, 10% from hydro and 3% comes from wind and solar [the numbers are rounded so it comes up over 100, but that's the idea anyway]. Nuclear is actually pretty green in many ways. You have to disposes of the waste in a 'green' way which we don't know how to do yet but we're always trying to improve. There is warm waste water which the ecologists say kills the fish though. No one would ever call coal 'green'. Since a lot of nature gas is released with fracking, the environmentalists are against that too. It also matters in that the power he uses could have powered 34 homes. Sure, he can buy and waste whatever he wants. It's a free country. But if he wastes the energy that could have powered other homes, that means for the other 33, resources have to be used. It's not very 'green' to be that wasteful.
all good points I didn't expect a rational discussion and am not prepared to be able to refute you... darn it
Sorry - I'm a numbers girl and was just getting into work, so my brain was in that mode. Al Gore is a huge hypocrite making money off of the obvious need for everyone to start thinking of ways to tread more lightly on the planet. We clearly need to no matter what. Him and people like him preach at us and then make money from it. It's really annoying and dilutes his message at the same time. Leonardo DiCaprio flits about in his huge lot and flies chartered jets to lecture on living green. John Travolta owns 6 jets and uses them to get himself to place to lecture on it.It's their money, they've earned it and if they want to own great toys, then that's awesome. I'd love to own a jet and fly it myself. I wouldn't though, suck up all of that fossil fuel to get to a conference on conservation and the environment. The hypocrisy of these people is ridiculous. You have money and want to waste resources? Fine, go for it. Just do it quietly.
I'm just off to bed but I'd like to keep in touch
So you're basically just whining about a celebrity owning multiple houses. I so believe I've reached the bottom of this...
Good.. then that is all we will here from you
