Are celebrities using their status to influence matters that should be left to the legal system?

Over the last few days several celebrities have spoken up over social media regarding the 51 year prison sentence of child sex trafficking victim Cyntoia Brown. The sentence was handed down in 2006 after she shot and killed a man in 2004, but the case has recently gained exposure due to a documentary.
Are celebrities using their status to influence matters that should be left to the legal system?
Are people making judgements outside their knowledge based on celebrity endorsement? There is an online petition asking for a presidential pardon, but if someone’s case has been tried by a jury of their peers and still found guilty should public pressure due to celebrity support have any influence?

Whats your opinion on the celebrity issue but also the case if you’re aware of it?
