compassion for people who have a different lived experience then you like this guy in Miami branded a racist for political reasons?
Is he really being branded a racist or was were people speaking up about the phrases racist origins? Two different things. Telling someone their phrase has racist connotations is not an attack. It's a learning experience. We all mess up from time to time. The important thing is how you react to being called out. The vast majority of people will be appeased if he stands up and says he is sorry, he wasn't aware of the racist connotations of what he said. And that he will work harder in the future to limit such phrases from his vocabulary.
there are no racist connotations apart from those his political opponents have made
A phrase can be racist without intent. Saying I got gypped is in fact racist because it's talking about Romani Gypsies. But in this day and age we are so far removed from the world that phrase was created in most of us don't even know where it came from. But to someone in the Gypsy Community that phrase is still very hurtful. Lots of those phrases referring to monkeys have their roots in negative phrases about Black people. And considering he was referring to the policies of his opponent who is Black the turn of phrase becomes even more poignant. All he has to do is apologize and say he didn't see the connotations that particular phrase could lead to. Making mistakes is fine and to be expected thats how we learn to be better. What matters is how he responds to these criticisms.
Gypsy is not a race it's a cultural identity
Prejudice then the point still stands.
Prejudice against a man for his political affiliations and race.
If you can't see how ridiculous that statement is then I'm done talking to you. I've attempted to keep the conversation civil and show you the other side but your playing wilfully ignorant. Donald Trump has said way worse things on camera and still managed to get elected this guys political career will be fine.
Bill Clinton has done far worse and managed to stay president.
So? Point proven. This isn't going to have an impact on his political career so stop making mountains out of mole hills.
I suppose your right, with liberals doubling down on the identity politics and SJW bullshit that cost them the election in sure he will win
No. Thst could be interpreted as assaulting black people in 2018 lol

So it's only racist if a black person is involved. How about white lies, is that racist if a white person is involved because it implies all white people lie?
Well in this situation yes it has a special relation with black people due to the history or racism. As for white lies its a common phrase in English and lying is not a common trait associated with racism against white people so its disqualified on both regards. It could still be racist but not by itself.
This is getting old, next thing you know, cold enough to freeze the balls off of a brass monkey would be impying racism.
Definition of monkey with. informal. : to handle or play with (something) in a careless way : to monkey around with (something) I told you not to monkey with the lawn mower.
So instead he should have said we can't be fuc&ing around.
@OldDad monkey buisness is another phrase that can't be said, black sheep too
Oh please. Enough about making excuses to racist old men. Its pretty clear what his intentions were.
Monkey business is sex, black sheep is the outcast of the family. Now if you went to the market for some n-word toes, that might be somewhat racist. If he said We can't afford to n_g_e_ this up, that is obviously racist.
@Soteris Looks like everything is racist to you. We shall no longer use the words black, brown, monkey, ape, or any word that might hurt some SJW's feelings.
@OldDad Racism follows a lot of the logic behind comedy and you can make a joke out of anything but not everything is funny.
You choose to be told what's offensive, thats your problem.
@OldDad My problem? I dont really care but I at least have a little bit of common sense about what racism is and is not. I honestly just find it sad when people try defending this behavior especially when it comes from people we already know are racist before.
Your problem is that you are trying to make something out of nothing. Like I said you let others decide what should be considered offensive.
You are actually racist that you think any phrase with monkey in it is racist.
@OldDad Eh? Monkey has been a derogatory term against black people for a very long time. This is by no means a surprise to anyone.
It's been a term for messing things up as well, i. e. throwing a monkey wrench into it. For goofing off, quit monkeying around. When my kids eat a bunch of sugar they act like little baboons.
So you actually think black people are monkeys. How very Carl Linnaeus of you.
@WhitePanther88 there are some racist terms that use monkey or ape. One starts with portch, the other yard. Im not fond of those sayings.
@OldDad Monkey has been used as a derogatory term for black people for like 200 years at least and there has been many forms.
As has white monkey, Neanderthal and white ape
I agree completely. The word racism means these days that you disagree with a liberals opinion or a liberal doesn't like you personally
by the way, sorry you were triggered. Don't cry.
If you think Monkey means black people then you are racist
I know trumpette codewords when I see them.
Definitely racist if you think Monkey equals black people.
If you were talking about normal decent people, you'd be right, but these are Trumpettes. They speak in code because honesty is foreign to them
So in your mind monkey decided means black man, so racist that you'd go there.
You're mistaking me for someone who cares about your opinion.
Obviously you don't even care enough to hide that your a racist.
Becaise saying monkey is racist to liberals. Perhaps they will invent a new pc word so we won't have to say money anymore ie bipedally challenged
I kind of get it but honestly please don't tell me that animal sayings are going to be considered racist in the future...
Wouldn't that be racist?
Yes for sure that would be racist that's no good.
Any mention of monkey behaviour is now racist
No it's not. You're just being extra to stir the pot.
The pot has already been stirred, black sheep can't be used either
I think you care more than black people
Of course I care, im a human being
As a person of Anglo European descent I take offense at your offense of phrases in common use of my native tongue and of appropriating the word monkey as a description of all black people
man, you're just waiting to pick a fight, aren't you.
More breaking news, I Don't Give A Flying Fuc!. Keep getting butthurt over someone telling you to be offended.
You cared enough to reply
I know, I offend lots of people, but do I need a safe space or to lose sleep... Nope.
Most old men's safe space is in the bathroom, I suggest you head to your porcelain throne and squeeze out a few brown bullets
Na, Mine isn't, I just siy on my portch, drink my coffee, and offend as many as I can, usually without trying.
Doesn't matter, it's racist now.
It probably could be used in a racist way but I'm not that alarmed if someone tells me not to monkey something up. I haven't encountered that phrase so I'm just assuming its like a regional thing somewhere
It's a common phrase in usage all over the anglosphere
Well I'm superbly white and lemme tell ya, I can't recall hearing it. Maybe though, I can't say it sounds like a phrase that never comes up ever.
The opppsing candidate is black
Usually it's phrased with the f-bomb. Imagine the outrage that would have caused.
