It’s really hard for me to see these recent fires, it’s frustrating because I’m not there, almost like all the times I worked on the thousands of acres to keep them from burning, went to waste. Now, just a few years later, it’s all being vaporized anyway. There’s a huge problem in this country with urban interface. We continue to build our cities and homes more and more in the areas where there’s heavy vegetation all around. We want to experience a more agrarian existence, and this is the cost, as we want to live in the “country” we need to think more about how we build our homes, there are fire proof construction practices and designs that would greatly improve the survival rates of structures.
I just talked to a couple of friends I know who are still in the forest service fire organization. One of them was there when it started and is on a 2 day R&R so he’s doing ok. Going back early tomorrow for the duration. He’s just in auto pilot, doing his job. I know what it’s like, you go on like a zombie, sorta of numb, you don’t feel, no emotions yet. When the fires are out, they will reflect, de brief, collect their senses and roll up their sleeves and figure what can be done better next season. All we can do is pray for them, and try to understand...
God bless you, darling and please be Safe, bae!! xxoo
Yes, but Now they say this State is the Worse in His and Her History. One never Learns even if they Burn Because they Love the Life out there. xx
@skipStop- “can never do something about it”. What is it, they can never do? The fire had nothing to do with “just stupid” people, or arson, or campfires. PG&E, the powe co., failed to turn off the power in the town when advised to do so due to the high winds predicted, and the RH was in single digits. Guess what happened after a few hours? A single downed power line arched and started a grass fire. They said within 1 hour the fire was traveling 3/4 mile in less that 10 seconds. My point is, you should have quit when you were ahead, when you said your no expert.I was a forest service firefighter in California a few years back. I’ve personally saved tens of thousands of huge trees, and untold countless homes, and property. I even save one older lady who was not evacuating when told to, I put her in her car just in time to miss the back of her home catching fire. You have no idea what problems there are , or aren’t, there’s no experts hanging around waiting for someone to ask them
What to do. Since you know actually nothing, it’s probably best not to speculate about any of what’s happening with those fires, other than to give some thoughts to the families who have lost everything, including people.
@Girther10 Chill out dude. Just because I'm not an expert doesn't mean I don't have the right to state an opinion or a question. And I never said that all forest fires can be prevented. I just said that there doesn't seem to be any progress in reducing the destruction and chance of happening. And you think I don't care about those people? Where did you get that thought from?
@SkipStop- you’re right, you do have a right to say what you think, I will always defend your right to do so. Sorry if I came across angry, It was not my intent. My only intent was to try to tell you it’s impossible for a normal citizen to understand the myriad of issues, and the complexity of these kinds of fires and why they behave as they do. So I do understand your frustrations. Those who’s job it is to confront these fires also feel frustration. Frustration of the kind where you feel helpless at times, frustrated because it seems we aren't making enough of a difference. Frustrated because the public is unaware of how hard it is, and how hard it is to keep trying. There’s no quick answer, so patience is key, but how patient can I expect anyone to be when they are looking at their entire life reduced to ashes...
@SkipStop- did it help when I explained in more detail the source of this fire? How it started? Did that help put things in better focus for you? That was my original intent, did I waste my time explaining?
I hope you read ALL of my poste on this topic? If , I’d like you to do so.
@Girther10 Yes, your explanation did help. Thank you. The only disaster I experienced in person was Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy in NYC. But that's only a bunch of trees down and homes partially damaged but could simply be put together.
And one m9re difference between extreme weather and fires is the level of predictability. Fires are somewhat predictable, however when you add the human interference factor, it can lessen the predictability.
I believe these Poor People wish they had More Water. xx
