Some reasons given are people who are triggered by loud noises, people with newborns, people who have insomnia or parents of autistic children.

Personally, I think it's rude and inconsiderate to opt out. What if it was your kid? You'd want someone looking for them and so what if you lose a few hours of sleep, it's a matter of life or death in most of the alerts and most of them are children.
