A teenager dubbed "egg boy" is being applauded by social media users around the world after cracking an egg on the head of an Australian politician who blamed Muslim immigration for the Christchurch terror attack.

The 17-year-old rose to fame after he was captured splatting the egg on Queensland senator Fraser Anning during a television interview, prompting a scuffle in which the youngster was twice punched and then restrained. What do you think of ‘’egg boy’’?What do you think of ‘’egg boy’’?

  • Trying to look at this objectively.

Removing the bigotry of the politician as a causal factor is easy, because the kid was on location with an egg, which means he was going to do it regardless of what the politician said. It was premeditated, as was the filming by eggboy.

I absolutely condemn the words from this grubby politician, in the same way I condemn all bigotry. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. The Extreme left in recent history has done and said worse.

I also condemn the actions of eggboy, (assault) Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In Australia, it is legal to defend yourself, other persons and property (reasonable force).

What would you do if a stranger walked up to you and egged you?

Did the kid deserve to get snotted? Absolutely

The politician should be censured and removed from his position also. There is a big difference between having freedom of speech and hate speech.

So who gets to decide what's "hate speech" and what isn't?

    • 7d

@ZeussLightningBolt that my friend is exactly the problem of our time. There are so many ideaologies, and nearly all of them are divisive, intolerant, hateful and lend themselves to miss information and fanaticism or extremism. The results of this fanaticism is dangerous and cancerous to society.

The comments of this politician are extreme right, the man hating feminism extremists are extreme left. The other problem with ideaology of course is that it is firmly entrenched in society by either religion or politics. We are now at the point where removing it for the good of manki d is necessary but impossible.

Lessons of our past are never learned and and history keeps repeating. The war between religeons has been with the human race for thousands of years so... it is folly to think it will change any time soon.

The song "We didn't start the fire" holds a lot of milage. The real question is... how do collectively, we put it out?

  • Yes, the boy's behaviour was disrespectful and his actions should not be encouraged, but the politician also was at fault: he should have been more intelligent and responsible with his rhetoric. A few years ago a Japanese girl came to visit my country to take part in the carnival festivities and was murdered, and all the
Mayor of the capital city could say was that "women should watch what they wear in public". He was roundly criticised for his insensitivity and later resigned his post.

  • I think it was a silly stunt he shouldn’t have done, but at the same time Annings reaction was over the top and his supported used excessive force in restraining the kid.
Anning deserves to lose his job for the comments he’s made. He’s an abomination on our political system and has zero compassion for a situation that has sent an entire country into mourning.
This is a situation I think very few people outside of New Zealand actually understand. New Zealand doesn’t have the racism or cultural divide most other places do, there is no us and them mentality - this attack IS on New Zealanders yet everyone else is being divisive including Anning. He can fuck right off

  • I once saw a video where Belgian girls dumped fries and milkshakes on their Prime Minister.
I tell ya, you GOTTA love politicians in other countries. This would NEVER happened in the U. S. and if it DID the kid would be seeing some serious jail time, and so would the politician for assaulting a minor.
But secret service would NEVER allow this to happened in the first place.
But I'm wondering who put him up to it. Kid is far too young to understand politics or the significance of the comments that were said. It's a funny prank, but that's about it. It will do nothing to change his views. Kids shouldn't interfere in adult issues. I don't necessarily think it justified punching the kid, but it might have just been reflexes. I probably would have done the same thing. He kind of had it coming. But either way, such stupid actions won't solve anything. And we shouldn't immediately condemn the senator's comments, as the shooter himself listed "immigration" as one of his motives.

And you're overexagrerrating when you say, "The entire world is applauding egg boy". Certainly doesn't seem this way from the comments section. He assaulted a government official. He's just a kid, yet thinks he knows everything. He's lucky he didn't end up in prison.

But don’t you understand its all just opinions. You don’t have to like him or agree with him but you can have your own opinions and say whatever you want thats the beauty of freedom of speech and political expression. But that boy is no hero he is only demonstrating and promoting immature childish behavior telling people this is how you deal with your problems. Even if I didn’t agree with this politician I would have beat the crap out of that kid if he think he can just go and do that to anybody. That man was old enough to be his father or grandfather. Its not just a harmless egg that egg could have been filled with anthrax or it could even be a gun. What he did is assault and no matter how much you hate a person or disagree with them it’s never ok to assault anyone! If you want to get involved study politics and have your own interviews and say whatever you want.

It’s a free speech but the timing is absurd. You cannot blame muslims straight after the traumatising attack where they lost 50 souls.
It’s common sense and civil to not make a ridiculous comment. But as obvious, the politician knowingly made himself controversial to spark his political career to gain more followers.
Now, again, I do not condone egging nor do I deem it as a ‘right’ thing to do. Both parties are at fault and not surprising by the mass of hate they receive from both perspectives.

If the senator said something wrong, he should debate not use puerile attention seeking tactics as a supposed "protest" of what was said (the fact that he was there, with an egg to begin with shows that it really had little to do what was said, it was an attempt at fame and applause not actual concern).

It was unnecessary for him to commit those actions, however, I do not deem the actions of the politician to be right either and that’s what seems to be ignored in this thread numerous of times.

Both parties are at fault—from an outside perspective.

    • 5d

I didn't come to a conclusion, I was giving my reasoning why I think it was wrong, you seemed to be justifying it but I couldn't tell so I was pointing out why I think its wrong because it can very easily be used to justify this behavior towards anyone. As for the politician, no, he had every right to punch the kid in the face, if your old enough to pull that crap (what is he 17? Old enough to know that actions have consequences) then he was old enough to suffer the consequences for it (and its not like their was permanent damage). As for the mans opinion, I don't care, people say things I disagree with every day. I think feminist have said worse then what he said, I have heard people on the left say things worse then what that man said, doesn't mean I think that they should be punished for it. Perhaps that's just because as an American, I understand and value the freedom to speak ones mind even if I disagree with it.

  • "Egg Boy" is in the wrong no matter how you look at the situation because he initiated force. However, Anning is *also* in the wrong because he responded with excessive retaliation.

The just course of action would have been for Anning to order security/police to arrest "Egg Boy" and decide later whether or not to prosecute him for assault (though I guarantee there was not enough physical harm done to make a case for battery).

However, Anning instead struck him twice in retaliation, leaving himself also open to being prosecuted for assault, and in his case, perhaps even battery, because he undoubtedly caused more physical harm than "Egg Boy" did.

In summary, "Egg Boy" was always in the wrong, but Anning's poor decision on how to respond put him in the wrong as well (and even more so).

-"Making such judgement is no surprise that the community got pissed."
