A banana duct-taped to a wall has sold for $120,000 (£91,550) at one of North America's most prestigious art shows, with another version of the artwork expected to sell for $150,000 (£114,460).
Entitled "Comedian", the artwork is comprised of a banana purchased in a Miami supermarket and held to the wall with a single piece of duct tape.
Despite the title of the piece, Perrotin insists the work is not a joke, with everything from the shape of the banana to its placement in the installation given a great deal of consideration.
The gallery said Cattelan spent a year working on the piece and had originally envisioned a sculpture shaped like a banana.
Oh I've seen this- it's utter bullshit😂🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
What are they gonna do when it rots away? And what about when it stinks of rotting? Will that be art as well?😂😂🤦🏾♀️
On a serious note it's pathetic. You've got kids who are going hungry all over the world living in poverty and starving- and then you have overprivileged idiots wasting $120,000 on a banana taped to a wall.
That money could have fed a bunch of hungry people, or given homeless people a roof over their heads- my point is it could have easily helped the poor, but instead it was wasted.
it is interesting that i got this today because i actually went to an art museum today. there are a number of things that are considered modern art nowadays. i saw a shovel anding from the ceiling today and it was art. art is not just drawing or painting on a canvas. although i do not fully understand this form of art it is not my business to argue anything

As a real artist who actually paints and writes quality work that I put a lot of effort and work into, people like this piss me off so fucking much.
I put a lot of passion and work into my poetry, writing and painting to create actual works of art and when I see crap like this and I see that people actually consider this art, it makes sick to my stomach.
That's not art, that's garbage and it belongs in a dumpster.
This is a painting, this is art
A banana taped to a wall is not.

Im convinced the “artist” paid someone to “pay him” 120k for the nanner because thats they only way onlookers will assess some mysterious value to it and see depth and art when there is none. Same can be said about dating when you see an ugly dude with a hot girl suddenly the ugly dude looks attractive. Herd mentalityz
Who the fuck killed modern art? Why is main stream art less about making art that inspires and awes and more about politics and competitive lump of shit making. What a giant waste of potential...
Men talk about how men make up the world's greatest artists, but when stuff like this counts as art, I'm not sure how much of an accomplishment that even is.
Could you do me a favor and put a trash can on your head and cartwheel down a flight of stairs? I mean jesus you didn't even mention anything about a fucking duct taped banana being sold for 120k! But what do I know I'm a "evil penis have" yes a conversation on sexism is what's needed here...

Nothing but another nail in the coffin of what used to be art.
