In the United States, some places have a "shelter-in-place" order issued. Thoughts?

In California, most of the Silicon Valley's/Bay Area's local governments have ordered a "shelter-in-place" . This means that people are required/highly recommended to stay at home and can/should only leave for necessity (medical emergencies, food, running, etc). Businesses are closing down and only hospitals, pharmacies, banks, and grocery stores will remain open. Restaurants are required to serve take out or deliver food only.

Currently there is a ban on gatherings of 35 or more as the confirmed cases rise past 550 in the state. People are facing arrests, fees, and prison time for breaking this ban as well. The United States has banned travel from Europe and Asia to the US (but US citizens are allowed to travel back with a mandatory self-quarantine). More orders predicted to happen!

Do you think this is a violation of people's rights? Do you think people will begin to take the virus seriously? How do you think this will affect the United States as a nation and how the virus will affect the world? Any other opinions?

(PS March and May SATs have been canceled because of the outbreak and sorry for another virus post)
