What are your Thoughts on the latest "New Mutant Covid-19 Strain?

- Actually, there are conflicting reports about the virulence of the mutation, and it is probably too early for anyone to really know whether it is more lethal or more contagious or whether the current vaccine will protect us from the mutation. And this illustrates a problem with science and public policy.
A new wrinkle develops and some doctor wants to grab the spotlight so they start spouting their "best guess" about the mutation without really knowing whether their statements are true, but they speak as if they are delivering established facts. And young people, in particular, want to believe that science is infallible and all "scientists" are as pure as the driven snow. So fake new develops and, particularly if it is alarming news, it spreads quickly. And then, when someone else advises caution and suggests that we should not automatically believe what is being said, the nay-sayer gets put down as uneducated and ignorant.1|30|0Is this still revelant?I just Have read it began in The UK, Maybe as Far back as last Oct over and is 70 Percent contagious. Hard to Swallow At Any rate. xx
- It’d be nice if we all could get vaxed for the current Covid strain and have our masks ready, Paris.1|00|2Is this still revelant?
Unfortunately many teenagers and young adults in New York City aren't listening.

- Well it's caused a lockdown here in London and the rest of the South East of the UK! And we are all absolutely devastated... like we're at square one all over again!!! :(
The vaccine should still be working though, and to my knowledge, as of today, 500k people have been vaccinated so far over here. Although I do recognise that the vaccine itself is a whole other debate...1|00|0Is this still revelant?- Show All Show Less

@Paris13,. You do understand that the face masks stop you from being a spreader, they don't stop you from getting covid.

1360- Was any one actually surprised? They said we needed to lockdown to flatten the curve. Then they said we have to wear masks and be locked down to flatten it more, then we need to be locked down even longer, then we need to be locked down until we had a vaccine, now that we had a vaccine they were saying it probably wasn't going to work anyway so we needed to be locked down for another nine months (and the rich elites like Bill Gates said it should be until 2022), now that they here grumbling from the people suddenly its mutated (something all virus's do and always have done) and so now we need to really stay locked down even longer (even as Dr. Birk, Dr. Fauci, and every politician who advocated for lockdowns ignore them).
If any one was surpised by this turn of events, they are stupid, niave, or both.2|00|0 - I've only just started my virology module for uni, but as far as I can see, it will result in new problems. However I imagine that governments ought to be well prepared for mutations in viruses - take influenza A virus, for example; mutations from H1 - H18 and N1 - N11 show that multiple strains exist, and many more I'm sure will keep evolving, which is why the flu is such a prevalent killer.
As for prevention of spread, normalisation of wearing masks would be an ideal solution, such as how it is in Japan (I don't know if this is actually true though or if it is just a stereotype of sorts that Japanese commonly wear masks).
The importance of hygiene on an individual level has an immense impact on controlling the spread of disease. It can't be emphasized strongly enough using only words. Hygiene is absolutely essential towards disease prevention.1|00|0 - We have know this for a long time. And there will be many multiple versions and mutations of Covid that's how viruses work. And of course some will be more effective than the other and some won't.
Nothing new, and don't really change my thoughts. Cannot wait until people just realize if a virus is gonna spread and they didn't stop it way beforehand it's gonna spread nothing we can do. We should be worrying about future viruses tbh not this which will fade and future ones could be way more potent and if we ain't trying to stop those ones well this happens.1|00|0 - It seems to be less lethal. Additionally it's a good reason for propaganda to convince the pleb for the barely tested vaccine. Imagine back in may 2020 there have been 4 mutated strains of covid already detected, I guess there are much more now.
I won't say covid-19 doesn't kill people, it does. But our governments use it for their shitty compliance psyop, when you consider that statistically flu waves killed statistically same amount of people in last two decades like covid did this year. General mortality statistics are worthy to take a look on it.1|00|1I don't know where you get your information from, but it is woefully wrong. Covid-19 mortality rate is FAR higher than influenza.
You're woefully incompetent while you can't google mortality statistics. I'm not questioning the mortality of covid-19, I'm questioning severity of measures and burden for society that should stop the spread.
- People have weird thoughts with the concept of mutation. Mutation is perfectly normal and there have already been thousands of mutated versions of COVID-19 going around.
Important questions are whether this is more contagious and whether it impacts the efficacy of vaccines. Firstly, the 70% is based on modelling by the British government but is yet to be confirmed in labs. Secondly, it is not yet known with 100% certainty whether it compromises the efficacy of vaccines.
Both of these questions are uncertain simply because it doesn’t exist for that long and science needs time.
As for my thoughts, don’t know as so much of it is not known.1|00|0 - Anonymous29 dHaven't really heard about it until now and haven't looked into it. If the vaccine works on it as well as the strain we're familiar with, then no worries. If it doesn't, then we've spent a whole lot of time and money developing something that will soon be totally useless and it will ultimately come down to people being responsible and looking out for each other, by avoiding the behaviors that spread disease. In other words, a lot of people will die due to individual human selfishness. Same song and dance, as always.1|00|0
Started in The UK, Big Problems with banning them to Go anywhere or having other Countries want them now. xx
- It isn't unexpected.
Viruses mutate the more they spread. This is why dumb fucks are told not to travel to or from high infection rate locations.
The mutation isn't a game changer for the virus though. It will still be picked up by the tests and can still be hit with the same vaccine.1|00|0 - It is not certain yet, but it is likely that the mutation will not cause worse illnesses and that the vaccine will work against it.
At most it is more contagious, but that I also not yet sure.
Anyway, I'd rather have a mutation that spreads faster than one that becomes more aggressive.1|00|0 - I had a feeling it was only a matter of time from all the movies i've watched to date. You know. Virus mutates, virus becomes smarter. Same old Hollywood movie over-used stories. But you know i've already had the virus once this year and am not pleased about the reality their are growing strains or this new strain. Bit concerning.1|00|0
- Yeah, you know anything to keep the masses scared. Big Pharma Companies Earn More Profits Than Most Other Industries.

I really wish people would freaking wake up and stop being blind1|01|0 - More contagious means nothing really as long as we protect the elderly and vulnerable.
That way we can keep the deaths down.
I for one will continue my life like I have done through this pandemic.
If one lives their life scared, they aren't living just surviving.
We also have 2 vaccines now so it's a whole lot of political crap if they mandate lockdowns.1|00|0 - that will depend Paris, if for example do not kill and help to make antibodies for other mutatiins that actually kills or harm , then is a blessing. if not a nature disaster. but i just read that the vaccine can be modified if needed.. so nothing to fear at the end...1|00|0
- Obviously those are terrible news. It makes the situation even more dangerous and complicated. I hope it doesn't interfere with the vaccines that are already available and with those that are still on trial.1|00|0
That's true. We're living in a time of uncertainty and fear. I've heard about the new strain that came from South Africa. This is getting even more scary. 😦

Yes, unfortunately that can happen. I just hope it doesn't, we need this nightmare to end. 😭🙏🏾
- REALLY worried. I have friends in Britain and I’m concerned for them and concerned it will inevitably spread around the world.
Wbu? How do you feel about it?1|00|0I am Concerned, Lovely. My Ali is Out there. We can Only hope Everyone Stays Extra Safe Now!!! xx
- Anonymous28 dI said that this would happen at the beginning of the "pandemic", as soon as they produced a vaccine. As in they'd do their best to scare the shit out of people so that they'd take it. The next step, as many people refuse the vaccine anyway because we know this is bullshit, will be further measures to attempt to force people to take it.0|00|0
- Never go out again, what did you expect? Do people still think that if they stay at home for 2 weeks it will go away? Viruses mutate, it will never go away in your lifetime.1|00|0
- Please explain how it is 70% more contagious because this makes zero sense, it spreads the droplet way. From a person to person, the only way for it to be more contagious is for more people to have it, that's it...1|00|0
- Another great English achievement. Just as we were getting to grips with covid they doom us all.1|00|0
- Paris was the name of the first girl I danced with lol. Anyway yeah big problem Paris. Sounds like another few years of this will be more probable now.1|00|0
- My first thought “oh fuck off” lol. I’m done with this shit.1|00|0
- Would the vaccine be effective against this new strain? God , we are going to be in lock down another year 😔1|00|0
- Natural progression of a virus. A virus wants to live, so if too many hosts die, then it can't live.
Eventually, it won't kill many people at all, but could still cause serious damage to a person.1|00|0 - It is a lie and complete joke. It is just more propaganda to get you to take the covid vaccine. Trust nothing the media says!1|00|0
- Pure propaganda to keep people inside during Christmas. I'm well aware viruses naturally mutate, but the timing of this one is sus.1|00|0
- If you are frightened enough, you sort of get over that fear and there is nothing they can throw at you that will make you afraid any longer.0|00|0
- Anonymous28 dThey made it worse so you can force the vaccine.
Stop eating animals and virus will stop happening. It's good telling you to stop.

- We knew Covid would mutate which is why we will need to get vaccinations each year. Sucks but that is reality.1|00|0
- Anonymous28 dThe vaccine works against all strains so it doesn’t matter. Wash your hands stay home when sick.1|00|0
Vaccines don't always work on all strains of the same species of virus. For example, every year we have new vaccines against influenza virus, due to mutations.
Yeah, I'm aware that the antigen for this virus is consistent across the different strains, it's just that I was disagreeing with your more generalised statement. Sorry for any ambiguity.

Oh I just realised I completely misinterpreted your original comment, I'm kinda stupid sorry
- Yeah great what else is going to happen in 2020, we all need a fucking break from this shit.1|00|0
- Well, if necessary, we'll just need another vaccination. It is what it is.1|00|0
- More problems and I guess it was only a matter of time1|00|0
Hopefully the vaccine is good for both strains and not like the flu shot that’s only good for one
I don’t know what they are going to about it but maybe keep a travel ban so it doesn’t spread like before until they get another vaccine for the new one
- The virus has previously mutated to a stronger infection rate.1|00|0
- Remember that it was a more transmissible strain that wiped out the Spanish flu1|00|0
- Yah sojnds like Americans version caught up with anotger country1|00|0
- Anonymous28 dThat is what viruses do. Corona viruses are the new flu. It will either be the cold and Corona season; or it will be the cold, Corona, and flu season.1|00|0
- More problems indeed, but fascinating how quickly it's adapting0|00|0
- I don't know if I believe them anymore if it was real why are they letting people spread it about don't make sense.0|00|0
“Why are they letting people spread it...” that’s the dumbest thing I’ve read in a while.
Yes why's pricks who don't care allowed to spread it. I've been in outher people are just spreading it about on purpose, so what's the point in most people trying when outhers do fuck all like I think you would be, I think they should lock em up it's murder really to spread or allow it to do shoot the pricks who don't listen now.
- This is why I have anxiety.1|00|0
- Not afraid considering the survivability of it.1|00|0
