Totally normal guy, held off on dating until I finished college and now have a job. Over a few months, I've tried to plan dates with many different girls. All of which agreed at first then either changed their mind at the last minute, came up with some reason why they can't do it (usually family matter), tried to reschedule then flaking on the plans, completely stopped communication even when it seemed like we were getting along, etc. Is this normal when trying to date girls, am I in the wrong somehow?

Typical date (planned at least a week ahead of time):
Coffee, [some activity] (cycling, bowling, museum, etc.), dinner at a restaurant.

A good friend of mine, who did well with girls, back when he was single and before in a serious relationship. He often would give his number (not always), and I'm sure all didn't text him. But many did, and told me to at times. I've had girl I know girls like guys to probably text first, but to me it puts the ball in the girl's court. A girl may not always text for different reasons, but I feel if she does, it's more likely or her interested or quite interested in the guy if she does text a guy who gave her his number.

I feel sometimes women may text a guy back who she gave her number too out of being polite or maybe semi interest but then flake out. It can still happen if she texts a guy who gives his number, but I just feel a girl has to be pretty interested to initiate. But I wanted to kind of get a consensus and see girls opinions or survey with how women felt. You can add your two cents if you like though.
